I think it was racist

Before the end, they were celebrating in the bus and the driver drove really wildly. They kept showing the wheels and how they didn't rotate quite right, and the cliff, and the black driver laughing like mad. And that made it look really scary. I think it was quite racist to use the black guy at the wheel to increase the tension and the feeling that something is going to happen.

oh so black men cant drive buses
work ok in london and brilliant on the tube
so we have to change everything ever written all films etc to suit today
what a load of rubbish grow up

reply

Oh PLEASE!!! Stop with the "racist" "sexist" stuff!!!!! Can't you people just enjoy the movie as it is? I grew up in the UK and owned a red Mini-Cooper. I loved this movie from the day it was released and own my own copy for when I need cheering up.

reply

Dude. You're a nut case! Get over it. Just watch the film and enjoy it for what it is. I would have never have thought that in a million years!

reply

I didn't even notice until you mentioned it. Aren't they all laughing and drinking at the same time anyway?

Still, 60's UK was quite racist at the time, so I suppose it's plausible.

reply

No, don't see that at all. Now, if you had made the point that the Italian police are made to look totally inept - which they may well be for all I know! - then you might have had a case. But the black driver? Nah, don't see that at all...

reply

Okay, have you ever driven a bus on a mountain road like that? I've been in a smaller vehicle, and we hung off the edge! I think they gave the black guy a major role, he got to be the key man, while many of the white guys were just there, and we didn't really see them do anything. The movie needed someone to drive the bus and the bus had to do that, and the person who got the role was black. Why not see it that way?

No it wasn't, but your comment was the absolute epitomy of racism.

reply

I don't really think that's racist, the cliffhanger part is the whole point of the film it's what people remember the film for. So why does it matter if he was Black, surely it would be racist if there was no Black people at all

reply

What total *beep* I thought it was great to see a film so old that had both a black and gay character.

reply

Racist against Italians maybe.
Maybe those pommy *beep* minis look invincible. and those Alfas which were much better look bad.

Eat the Neocons.

reply

Definately wasn't racist well maybe a little bit but that was the norm wasn't it?

reply

Racist against Italians maybe.

and the black driver laughing like mad. And that made it look really scary

I had to read this twice, and couldn't believe my eyes. You're an idiot. If you feel a black man laughing like mad is scary then it's you who is the racist. Would it be less scary if the driver was white, laughing like mad? Of course not. Why do you focus on the skin color so much? It's been some time since I saw the film and I didn't even remember the driver was the black guy.

Next thing you'll call it racist because the boss is white, and not Maori.
