I don't think ANYBODY could drive on that road, black, white, or Martian, and make it safely! Especially with a big bus like that. Besides, what was Charlie Croker doing--he was still the boss, so it's partly his fault. He could have said, "Hey slow down a little!" Instead, he was celebrating. I actually felt bad for the driver in that everybody else was having a great time while he still was working (now THAT might have been racist, but still, probably not), so he was just getting a little carried away by the party going on behind him.
By the way, the soundtrack was written by Quincy Jones, one of his early ones. With all the composers that could have been used on this production, they hired a black man (who was brilliant, of course), so I don't think it is fair to presume that they were racist, at least, not any more than anybody else at the time.
