Were you there?
I saw the Green Slime in a movie theater at the corner of Mulberry and Canal Sts in NYC back in 1969 or 1970. Let me know if you were there.

shareSorry, no. But I saw it at the Lyric Theatre in Huntsville, Alabama sometime in 1969.
I remember (at least I THINK I do) the Green Slime drink they were selling at the concession stand, where you could see the green drink in one of those transparent fountain boxes they used to entice you to buy some Punch or whatever.
And I remember someone had spray-painted "The Green Slime are coming!" all over the sidewalks downtown. We were jazzed-up to see this movie like no other.
To COSSACK:
Hey, I saw it in Huntsville, Alabama back in 1969 too!! Small world! Anyway, one of the silliest sci-fi movies of all time; my remeberance was one scene when several actors came down a ramp, one grabs the railing and it bends! Not the greatest sets! Saw this with good friends, and we spent the whole time yelling comments at the screen!
FOON
I saw it at eleven yo in 1971 IIRC on TV.
Maybe it was 72. It took longer back then for films to hit the TV stations.

My father saw it in the theaters when he was 11. He said that, randomly throughout the movie, there was a guy on roller skates who wore a green slime costume and skated down the aisles to scare the little kids. In my dad's words, "The movie was so awful, they had to do something to get you to jump."
shareI was negative 4 years old when this movie was released, but did catch it for the first time on a Sat afternoon creature feature with the Blob when I was about 5. I was hooked to both movies and had many nightmares about each monster. So basically I first saw Green Slime around 1977 or 1978. I have worn out my Criterion DVD of the Blob. I doubt they give Slime the same treatment.
I have the VHS copy, but the pan is slightly different from the version I had taped from TV in the 80s. When the General tells Rankin "...then don't come back down- because there won't be anything to come back down TO!"- on the VHS version you see the General saying it but Rankin isn't shown. On the TV version you hear him say it off screen, but see Rankin's reaction. Rankin is looking down at the paper then his eyes cut up to the General with a "you gotta be sh-tting me" look. I really can't wait to see this in widescreen. Hope it comes to DVD soon.
I saw it in the Fortway Theater in Brooklyn in 1969-70. As usual when I was a kid, I saw the movie twice. I was 12, so I thought it was the greatest thing I'd ever seen.
Then the adults came in for the next show and they were laughing at the movie. (I seem to recall a scene where one of the Slimesters is stomping around in the space station's sick bay that sparked a particularly hearty round of guffaws.)
I remember being confused and somewhat upset by this. How could anyone laugh at such a cool movie? I haven't seen it since and perhaps its better that way...
I only WISH I had seen it at the Fortway theater!
When I was growing up in the 60's we saw almost everything that played at the Fortway, except for THE GREEN SLIME and FANTASTIC VOYAGE. I still remember seeing the poster near the box office and wanting to see it so much. I don't know why, but we never got to see it.
By the way, there are too many double features I fondly remember seeing at the Fortway to mention here, but one classic bill was GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER and FROGS. What fun to be part of a theater full of kids cheering Godzilla!
I do remember that the first time I saw it was on the CBS Late Movie in the early 70's. For a long time it was one of my favorites. How could it not be with that awesome title song!
I'm somewhat of a fan of Richard Jaeckel, and Luciana Paluzzi is always pleasing to the eye~~I just love her name! By the way, is anyone else bothered by the fact that Rankin is responsible for bringing the creatures to the space station, but this fact is never brought up?
Let's hope Warner releases it soon, and either they or MGM release WILD WILD PLANET soon, another outrageous 60's sci fi camp classic.
Not 'there', I saw it at the tender age of FIVE or so on the island of Okinawa, around 1969 or 1970. My Dad was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base at the time, for some reason I remember this movie vividly but haven't seen it since.
Another equally memorable movie seen by a five year old in Okinawa.....

I'm proud to say I was there. As a kid I loved horror films and every time a new monster movie came out my dad dutifully took me. We saw this in a downtrodden theater in downtown San Francisco. I can't recall the name..it may have been The Esquire. Anyhow, on the back of most of the seats were bright green "The Green Slime are Coming!" bumper stickers stuck to the back of each seat. And the floor of course was slimy from never beeing cleaned :). I loved this movie as a kid.
sharei saw it at the Central Theater in Cavite City,Philippines..i remember they wouldnt let young kids in due to the 'graphic nature' of the film (i was 6 yrs old)..but i cried and cried and started a major tantrum that the management let me and my twin brother and my Aunt in just to shut me up..i still remember the rockin' theme song!!
shareI saw it at brooks air force base movie theater in San Antonio,Texas in 1969.I luved it then, but I was only 9 years old.Just bought it off e-bay,I still enjoyed it,plus,I still love the theme song.
shareI saw it when I was about 10...1971...when my father was stationed at Johnson AFB in Japan (about an hour outside of Tokyo.) I STILL remember seeing that movie and that it scared me...I didn't want to put my feet on the floor!
Bunch of military brats on this particular board! I saw this when my family lived on Ramey AFB in Puerto Rico around 1970. This was the very first movie I ever saw at a drive in and the first I actually remember seeing in a theater. Older friends snuck me in and warned me to be good because I was too young to see this scary stuff. I was scared to death by this movie and thought the end with the theme song was so cool. I have seen it since then as an adult and could not even sit through it. Sigh; the innocence of youth when everything was so new and fresh and a crappy movie like The Green Slime could scare me!
shareLOL Well I am happy to know that I am not the only one who was scared to death by this movie. Between that and Count Yorga, Vampire, I slept with my closet light on for MONTHS!
"A man's kiss is his signature" -- Mae West
I saw it at the Star-Lite DriveIn in Ludington,MI in 1974. It was the last of a triple feature, and it didn't start until almost 1:00 AM. The beginning sequence with the music made me think it was gonna be a fantastic movie. I still have a soft spot for this movie.
shareCenter Theater, Main St. Fort Mill, South Carolina, fourteen yrs old, summer of 69. Jeez, that was a wasted quarter.
shareSaw this opening day 1968 in NYC (Time Square DeMille Theater I think it was). Me, and three other friends one tickets from this radio station which featured Zachary (he was always involved with horror promos, shows, etc.). I remember the ticket's being huge - kind of like the size of two post cards and very glossy. Outside of the theater, there was Green Slime character walking around and entertaining the crowd (who were picking at his custom -- not very nice). The movie was ridiculous - but it was a good time! By the way, does anyone remember the original poster/newspaper ad? They made the creatures look MASSIVE, yet they were short squaty things.. :-(
I saw it with my main squeeze, also on Broadway (in Times Square), on the second day of it's opening run in New York. However, I believe that was in 1969, NOT 1968. (I can date the film by the person whom I was dating at the time).
I wanted to go opening day, but we just couldn't get the ticket money in time (we were cash-poor teenagers).
The thing I remember most about this, was the advertising campaign that began some months before the film opened. In almost every subway station in town, there were large black posters with just the words, "The GREEN SLIME" written on them, in big green letters (that looked kinda' slimey).
We figured it had to do with a film. Then after a few months, the large black posters were changed to read:
"The GREEN SLIME Is Coming!"
....then we were SURE it was a movie.
When we saw it, the theatre was half empty (it was a big house), and from beginning to end, the audience simply laughed at almost everything.
and, I must admit, so did we.....
I have a pristine, like-new, copy of the MGM-published VHS tape, which I purchased (mostly for nostalgic reasons) when it was released many years ago. I've watched that tape only once,-- not because I liked the film so much, but because it brought back memories of my high school movie dates.
Like many others here, I caught the TCM screening last Friday Night (Saturday morning, about 4:30am), which very likely, accounts for the 93% upsurge in 'interest' in this film, that I just saw listed on this web-site (IMDb).
Because of that 'upsurge' I just checked on Amazon, and "Like-New" used VHS copies of this film are selling (from independent Amazon vendors) for up to $150.00!
....apparently, "The GREEN SLIME" never made it to DVD.
I'm glad to know I have a VHS tape that some folks find saleable at $150.
