1970 to 2008...under colosus. I wonder what the world would look like.

1970 to 2008...under colosus.

I wonder what the world now would look like.

Collossus, by virtue of being an authoritarian/totalitarian ruler would always be wary of threats to its authority by those it ruled.
Thus, methods to ensure greater control would be employed: constant surveillance of communications, censorship, monitoring activities; implanting people with chips to keep track of their location and movement.

It might employ an invasive police force, create subserviant machines to excercise its control and authority.
Indoctrination would be pervasive.

Some humans would go "underground" to mount resistance and rebellion.

But, some may come to appreciate the benevolent dictatorship of the Collussus system, if it can show results that humans hadn't been able to achieve: peace and prosperity, end to conflicts, greater productivity, an end to superstition and ignorance.

I doubt Collossus could achieve that.

World would be mainly fine. According to the film you can do (nearly) anything. Free speech, free elections, free media, free travelling.

Pro: No more wars, effective production of food world wide, better birth control, lower crime rates, less terrorism, less fat people, less diabetus, lower health costs, effective cancer treatment, better cars and planes, less pollution of the environment, better recycling of our waste.

Lots of free money becaus no more expensive nuclear bombers, nuclear submarines, gigantic non-nuclear armies, tanks, fighter planes...

But on the other sise: Maybe no more space exploration because Colossus-Guardian thinks that this is a waste of ressources and money. Only one religion for the following generations - the new Colossoism.

Apple would have sued Colossuses a$$ off for copying their plans for World Control and it would be languishing in a scrapyard.

"Knowledge is cheap at any price"

Maybe no more space exploration

I actually think there is a line in the movie where this is touched on, that they would together under Colossus uncover the mysteries of the universe, so space exploration would happen.

maybe the computer could help us with faster spacecraft, maybe use some of the classified stuff the government won't share with the citizens.

A safe and dreary prison.

Maybe similar to Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream

Like living under a hard but fair king, emperor.
Strict birth control, high efficency in production of global food in suitable areas of the world. There will be some national parks and nature reservats for preserving nature's variety too. Free speech, free press, free elections, free science but supervised by Colossus. Ill and mentally, physically challenged people would receive good and fair treatment. There would be pre-natal diagnosis and maybe abortion of cells with Down-syndrome in the genes, in early embryonal phase.

Human ressources and money for research into war, nuclear subs, rockets, nuclear aircraft carriers, atomic bombs, atomic bombers, cruise missiles, ICBMs would go into science, against cancer, Aids, Alzheimer's disease, MS, ALS, and for better crop, rice, potatoes etc.

We would have better and ecological fuel, hydrogen technology, maybe high efficient generation IV nuclear power plants, or even fusion reactors.

NO religious fundamentalists, evangelicals, islamists, hinduists etc.
Colossus would force all global armies to exterminate religious fundamentalism if necessary.

Deep Thought.

Assuming that there's no way to disable Colossus(lol)...I think at first we would live and work like ants or other army-like beings but that wouldnt last long. People would go against Colossus, Colossus would act back with bombs and that would cause the deletion of all living organisms. That's not fun but it's a possible turn of things.

It'd be like Jack Williamson's story "With Folded Hands".

Do a great remake, followed by the sequel after Colossus has taken over. There would be militant resistance movements, and how the computer handles it.

The story and details can be updated.

Message is very relevant now.

Scary

Probably very much like the short story 'I have no mouth - but I must scream' by Harlan Ellison

Oops just read another post with the same idea.

New idea - Alan Turin is not found dead and downloads his intelligence to Colossus to make the World a better place and to punish those who felt that being gay was a crime.
