who here prefers brady bunch over the partidge family
I do.
shareI like The Partridge Family, but there are two main issues with it: the music dated it pretty quickly. Even in the 1980s, less than 10 years after it ended, The Partridge Family wasn't running in syndication as nearly as often as the Bradys, which was still going strong. Also, the youngest two kids were poorly cast and developed, so the show didn't as many well-developed characters to carry stories. The Keith Is A Boob/Danny Is A Schemer/Laurie Is Offended About Something stories had played themselves out after just a few years.
sharethe music dated it pretty quickly.
How those two tracks were never widely covered is beyond me.
Me too. The Patridge family seems not only dated but the music was terrible except for I think I love you.
shareOh my gosh, yes I do! My daughter and I watched all the Brady seasons and now we are working our way thru the Partridge Family season one DVD. The writing and jokes are just bad. BAD! Maybe it gets better after season one, I don't know.
shareYes, the PF had bad dialogue, bad acting and is just so dated.
shareSince my parents ruled the television during that time, we rarely watched either. But my mom seemed to like 'The Partridge Family' more, mainly because of the singing. However, it wasn't long after that shows first run that it quickly ran through syndication and was gone forever. Like others have said, it was very dated and the stories just didn't hold up. I really didn't seriously watch 'The Brady Bunch' until syndication when it aired at times when my parents weren't controlling the TV. That said, then and now, I prefer 'The Brady Bunch'.
However compared to the Japanese bashing and black references of Bugs Bunny cartoons from the 30s-40s as I mentioned, the Partridge Family is forgivable as they did make some effort to do what is done now, and also it was set in the city, unlike the suburban, rural shows already cancelled at the time. I saw it in reruns thru the 1970s-80s and I liked some stories, but I prefer the Bradys.. Chris and Tracy could have used more time..I've tried making up fan fiction, though, to correct that....but ya gotta admit the stars were good looking in the PF

I would hardly compare the dated themes and musical stylings of The Partridge family to Japanese bashing and black references of Bugs Bunny cartoons from the 30s-40s.
Where did that comparison even come from?
Here. Have a Snickers.
To put it in a nutshell, The Partridge Family themes were "timely" whereas the Brady Bunch was going for a "timeless" theme. That's probably why "The Bunch" is more successful today. I myself enjoy both shows, but I think the Partridge Family songs are better.
shareSomething else I just thought of... The Partridge Family's shows I've seen seem really dated because they touched on so many social issues of the time. Women's Lib and the like. The Brady Bunch kept it more focused on family issues and drama. I prefer to skip the dated social issues and just enjoy myself.
shareAgreed, both shows had a different dynamic than the other.
I still enjoy the music from both shows.
Unlike Father Knows Best and other black and white fifties shows, the Partridger Family themes are still hot topics (certainly in the Hillary Clinton-Bernie Sanders versus Donald Trump issue! I can just see Laurie choosing CLinton or Sanders over Trump.....) THe music generally is much less dated than it seems, and not just because I was there....didn't Justin Beiber start out as bland before he started rapping...given so many shows nowadays./.either works better though Brady from that same time beats them all---either way, the Bradys got to sing on record yet they didn't have any hits..The Warner cartoons and Three Stooges films are just as passe in some respect, the Depressiuon, WWII, much more so (and the 3 Stooges, despite my respect, were typical black and white, the Partridges were color, so by comparision they seem more fresh...an d compared to eighties "Teen" stuff like "Breakfast Club" or TV's "Family Ties", and once again with all due respect---could a decade's fashions get any MORE moored to a decade - the Partridges OR Bradys I'll take. But no one's made any Family Affair comments here...LOL or Nanny and the Professor..

Story-wise I definitely enjoy the Brady Bunch more. It's timeless IMO. I still get excited when certain episodes come on.
Musically, I definitely enjoyed the Partridge Family more. I'm not ashamed to admit that I still own three or four of their cds and get them out to play at least once or twice a year.
I do.
shareI have only seen both shows in syndication, not when they first aired. I know I have seen every episode of The Brady Bunch, and only a couple of the Partridge Family, which I just never could get into.
