The best (bank) robbery films

I'd name

- The Thomas Crown Affair (way underrated here)
- The Italian Job (1969 version)
- The Usual Suspects
- Die Hard I
- Heat

I saw a real cool one with Nick Nolte, something like "The Good Thief". Very cool music, too.

"Die Hard" is of course a uniquely excellent and bombastic blockbuster film that I think a lot of films tried to copy afterwards (not least of which the two "Die Hard" sequels). "Heat" is intense and draining and definitely a must-see (for adults), with a very classy group of actors.

"Killing Zoe" is another heavy-duty mind-blowing trip of a film (again, for adults only) centering around a bank robbery.

Other ones that you might want to check out (all good)

The Hot Rock
Charley Varrick
Inside Man
Sexy Beast

"Life is a state of mind"

"The Hot Rock" is so funny. I saw that back when it came out and wonder why it is never shown on TV. I guess because it is actually a comedy, that is why it didn't occur to me. Of the other films I only know "Sexy Beast", tried to watch it, but couldn't get into it. Will keep an eye out for the other two.

The Inside Man blew my mind!

[Charley Varrick]

It's the highlight of this film. Law enforcement rolls up on the bank consecutively with Varrick and his get-a-way driver wife. He puts them off and they drive away, but, one Deputy insists on running the plate. Don Siegel is nifty here, switches back to the Sheriff's Office as the dispatcher waits on wants & warrants. It comes back hot---she relays it to the Deputy...thru the window behind the dispatcher we see a cruiser take off. "Sheriff is on his way."

This beginning is a Don Siegel direct hit.

And let’s not forget Molly.-

If this thread wasn't so old I'd vote "Casino Royale" Niven/Sellers. You know, if this thread wasn't so old and I hadn't just seen TTCA tonight (3/10/2015) on TCM.

Best bank robbery movie of all time is The Silent Partner (1978). It's VERY different and quirky. 👍

I loved this movie, have seen it twice. Yes, they dress as nuns (sinister, but humorous). . Great location shots, Boston/Charlestown. Nice romance. Moody, bittersweet. Liked Ben Affleck in this role but this was the first time (2010) I became aware of actor Jeremy Renner and he blew me away.
