Needs a Re-make
I never much cared for this movie---supposed to be horror but doesn't work
had many spiritual successors all trash

It has had a remake, actually. There's a two-part television version that adapts Rosemary's Baby and its sequel Son of Rosemary.
(There's apparently also an earlier sequel -- not adapted from the novel, because it hadn't been written at the time. And a prequel. Both made for television.)
But the Polanski version is, a) excellent, and, b) very faithful indeed to the novel.
If you're looking for a more 'horror-y horror' you're basically looking for a different story altogether.
I mean, perhaps by what qualifies as horror in modern cinema, it could be thought of more as a thriller... but the horror of the story lies more in the way a vulnerable young woman is treated by her community -- and most especially by her husband -- than in any of its intentionally underplayed supernatural elements.
They did and it was awful. It does not need a remake. What we need are more original movies such as this one.
shareCheck out Hereditary, as close to a modern remake as I would want and is just as good imo.
