I haven’t ventured over to 4k yet but I keep seeing titles like this getting new treatment with lots of extras. I guess I need to start looking for a player.

Here is my question: are 4k players regional like dvd and Blu-ray? I feel like I’ve asked this before somewhere, but I just don’t recall.

- All 4K discs are region free. All 4K players can play any 4K disc.
- All 4K players are backwards compatible meaning they'll be able to play blu-rays and DVDs.
- However 4K players will often be region bound, that means your backwards compatibility will be limited regarding the ability to play your old blu-rays and DVDs on it. Example - you buy a Region 1 4K player, it will be able to play any 4K disc but will only play Region 1 blu-rays and DVDs.

They done away with the regions for 4K. Not entirely sure why it's still in place for the older home media, likely old contractual bullshit that they can't go back on.

If I do get a 4k player I should be fine then. I have an “all region” dvd / Blu-ray player, so if I add the 4k it will just be another component and I won’t have to look for an all region one.

I’m still trying to do all region VHS but that is a bit more difficult. I have PAL copies of Golden Rendezvous (1977) and The Seven Red Berets (1969) on VHS that I would love to watch some day.
