Possible remake...

After a devasting dud making "Alexander" with Colin Farrell, Rosario Dawson, Jared Leto, Val Kilmer, Anthony Hopkins, & Angelina Jolie, Oliver Stone (Platoon, Born on the 4th of July) is reportedly remaking this Oscar-nodded & Howard Hughes-favorite Cold War drama with former co-writers David Veloz (Natural Born Killers) and John Logan (Any Given Sunday).

Oliver will produce with John Logan (a co-producer on 2002's "The Time Machine") and former "Ice Station Zebra" star Tony Bill (The Sting)

The best cast to star...(although these are my personal favorites, and probably will not star in this remake)...

--Kevin Spacey (American Beauty) as Cmdr. James Ferraday, formerly played by Rock Hudson (Giant)

-- Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves) as 1st Lt. Russ Walker, 1st played by Oscar-winning producer Tony Bill (The Sting)

-- Val Kilmer (Tombstone, Alexander) as Lt. Cmdr. Bob Raeburn, 1st played by Gerry O'Loughlin (Cop Hater, City Heat)

---- George Clooney (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) as David Jones, 1st played by Emmy-winning "Columbo" co-star Patrick McGoohan

---- Jamie Foxx (Ray, Collateral) as Capt. Leslie Anders, 1st played by athlete-actor Jim Brown (The Dirty Dozen, Any Given Sunday)

---- Dennis Quaid (Far From Heaven, Traffic) as Adm. Garvey, 1st played by Lloyd Nolan (Hannah & Her Sisters, Airport, TV's "Julia")

---- Stellan Sarsgaard (Good Will Hunting, King Arthur) as Col. Ovstrovsky, 1st played by fellow Swedish actor (and sometimes director) Alf Kjellin (Madame Bovary, Ship of Fools)

--- Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings) as CPO Paul Zabrinczski, 1st played by Ron Masak (Harper Valley P.T.A., TV's "Murder She Wote")

---- Chris Cooper (Adaptation, American Beauty) as Lt. Jonathan Hansen, 1st played by Ted Hartley (TV's "Peyton Place")

---- Charlie Sheen (Wall Street, Platoon, TV's "Spin City" & " 2 1/2 Men") as Lt. Martin Mitgang, 1st played by Lee Stanley (TV's "Mr. Novak")

---- Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio, Blade: Trinity) as Lt. George Mills, 1st played by Murray Rose (Ride the Wild Surf)

---- Paul Giamatti (American Splendor, Sideways, Saving Private Ryan) as Dr. Jack Benning, 1st played by Joe Bernard (Judgment at Nuremberg, Murder Inc.)

---- Vincent D'Onforio (Men in Black, TV's "Law & Order: CI" *& 1 episode of "Homicide: Life on the Streets") as Lt. Courtney Cartwright, 1st played by stuntman/actor Mike Mikler (TV's "Gunsmoke" & "The Young Marrieds")

--- Oliver Stone (Any Given Sunday) cameoing as the survivor, 1st featured by John Orchard (TV's "M*A*S*H*")

--- Michael Douglas (Wall Street, The American President) as Peter Costigan, 1st played by Jed Allen (TV's "Santa Barbara" and "Lassie")

The production budget would be about $1.2 billion dollars to pay that cast...

For future reference, here are the IMDb pages for the remake:

The IMDbPro page shows only limited information without a subscription.

The regular (non-Pro) page won't have much information until after
the project status progresses from development to production.

Interesting.

Although in these oh so politically correct times, who would be the bad guy? Terrorists? Russians?

The camera taking pictures of missile bases is an outdated concept so that would have to be changed--

Maybe to something like a virus brought back from Mars or something by a robot spacecraft? The bad guys want to use it as a weapon-- that kind of thing.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what (if anything) they come up with.

Hollywood seems to be creatively dying. I think if you said that next year you can't do a sequel, re-make, or a movie involving comic based superhero's the town would simply fold up.

Kevin Costner and Val Kilmer? You mad son? They are box-office kryptonite, not to mention Val Kilmer would get wedged in one of the hatches and sink the sub.

Ya Kirk-loving Spocksucker!
