The best theme song

Sure I like Shirley Bassey but this performance by Nancy Sinatra is my favorite

Live and Let Die, A View to a Kill, Nobody Does it Better (Spy Who Loved Me) are my top

reply

Pretty much agree with you there, Roger Moore had the best theme songs!

reply

I agree.

I agree. My top three are YOLT, From Russia with love and OHMSS.
I find Bassey´s vocals too loud. I like the delicate nature of Sinatra´s vocals in this.

reply

Just about the ONLY good thing about this movie is the theme song/score!

Yes, several of the old Bond songs were great, but "You Only Live Twice" sung by Nancy Sinatra is my favorite. She really nailed it.

Minority viewpoint, but I dig the newer Bond themes a lot. You Know My Name was great, and I even liked Another Way to Die (which I know is unpopular). Skyfall, though? That's a great song. I wasn't a fan of Writing's on the Wall; it's just "off" and never feels quite right to me.

Anyway, I'm not gonna knock the classics, though, either; You Only Live Twice is a great song, and it's used really great throughout the score for the film as well as just being great on its own. I also love From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, A View to a Kill, and Live and Let Die. Not a lot of classic Bond themes I don't like, actually...

I'm honestly not very familiar with the newer Bond themes, just catching a snatch here and there. I pretty much lost interest after Roger Moore retired from the role. But here's another minority viewpoint (yours may not be so minority!)--I like License to Kill, certainly because I like Gladys Knight. But my understanding is that it is not generally well regarded.

reply

License to Kill is one of my favorites. It's so big sounding.

reply

I like Licence to Kill as a theme song; as a movie I love it.

“lost interest after Roger Moore retired”

Same here. I actually haven’t seen a single one since Moore.

reply

This is a top one for me too. That intro with the strings is one of the best openings of any pop song.

Other top are: Diamonds Are Forever, License to Kill, Nobody Does It Better.

reply

I'd always choose Nancy Sinatra over Shirley Bassey.

In terms of overall career, I'm a Shirley Bassey fan--I only know Nancy Sinatra for this and "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'"

Shirley recorded this in 2007 for her album 'Get the Party Started.' It's not bad, but Nancy's is of course better.
