Who do you think is prettier Sharon or Barbara?

It's a superficial question, but I think Barbara Parkins was absurdly gorgeous.

reply

Barbara Parkins.

reply

Apples and oranges. IMHO, they simply cannot be compared, as they are both beautiful, but totally different "types." It's up to an individual's personal taste which lady they find more attractive.

reply

Sharon is very, very pretty, but once you've seen the autopsy photos, it's hard to get them out of your mind. Stupid Susan Atkins.

reply

Barbara. She was really pretty.

reply

Sharon Tate.

Sharon, she was perfect , very elegant, sweet and sexy. What a classy lady. She also has this title... an icon of the sixties.

'She also has this title... an icon of the sixties.'

she wasn't around quite long enough to be titled an icon..unless you mean in retrospect to her tragic end.

Face - Parkins
Body - Tate.

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

I've always thought Sharon was one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen. Even as a straight woman I still drool over some of her pictures. This one I've linked is one of my favorites.

I agree with you, marybeth. With all due respect to the memory of Ms. Tate, I found that Sharon's sunken eyes gave her a hollow-faced look. Barbara's looks are "safer," but she is all-around gorgeous, sort of like a young Susan Hayward, but with fuller, more sensuous lips.

Then there's her obvious elegance and poise. It tended to limit Barbara as an actress (see her screen test as Neely on the VOTD DVD to see how inappropriate it would have been for her to play that role), but we're talking physical attraction here, and Barbara tops the list for me for 60s actresses.

Finally, she's just plain hot. When in VOTD she comes in from the beach in her bathrobe and throws the bottle of dolls against the wall, I find her body language a complete turn-on. Here she subtly discloses the animal that lurks beneath the cool exterior.

They both were beautiful but in my opinion Sharon Tate was so strikingly beautiful that there were few women who were on her level.

reply

Sharon Tate is the most beautiful. As other posters have mentioned Sharon's beauty is on another level.

reply

Tate had the Farrah Fawcett persona going for her; something special, whether or not she was the most beautiful or symmetry

reply

Why compare classic beauties? SERIOUSLY. They are all in their own leagues. Was Sharon, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful women ever? Hell yes. Looking at her features, they are perfection, mathematically. So pleasing, and appealing, and attractive. More so than BP, I'd say. But that aside, I agree, she is in a class of beauty all her own. However, here are some women who are also in their OWN classes. Yes, own classes. No need to compare actresses.

Natalie Wood
Elizabeth Taylor
Marilyn Monroe

reply

There is no need, but we don it all the time. Nothing wrong with it.
I'm sure if we wanted to,we could find the better in each woman, For example, Parkins has a better mouth, while Tate had better eyes,etc.etc.
Then DUKE,actually, had the best legs(which is overlooked)and great eyes.

I always say that when you get to a certain level of beauty, it really just comes down to personal taste. If you prefer a more conservative, subtle beauty, Barabara will appeal to you. If you prefer a more glamorous, obvious beauty, Sharon will appeal to you. They're both equally pretty, just in different ways (although I like Barabara more, personally).

In the book, Anne is described with seeming more beautiful the longer you look at her, and Barbara fit that perfectly for me. When I first saw her I thought "Eh, she's pretty..." but halfway through the movie I couldn't get over how gorgeous she is! And for Jennifer, she's the type of woman whose presence demands attention, like Sharon. If Barabara and Sharon were standing next to eachother in a room, you'd notice Sharon's beauty first b/c it's more obvious, and the same goes for their characters. The casting was great.

reply

Definitely Sharon, but Barbara is also quite beautiful herself.

reply

Wow, great analysis. Especially the part about 'more beautiful the longer you look at her'. That is it in a nutshell with the two types of beauty.

I think men respond to the Sharon Tate beauty with more intensity and women respond to the Barbara Parkins type.

Personally, I don't like the obvious thing nearly as much. The kind of beauty that creeps up on you and then overwhelms is the ultimate.

As I've said elsewhere, Marilyn Vos Savant, in her column in Parade magazine, explained the difference between pretty and beautiful something like, "pretty is when men look, beautiful is when women look, and gorgeous is when children look." Good definition.

From the posts, it looks like most are Sharon 10/10, Barbara 9/10. In this case I'd say Sharon 11/10, Barbara a perfect 10.

reply

Definitely Sharon. IMO, Sharon was the most beautiful actress ever to work in Hollywood.

reply

Can't tell you enough how much I agree with you, Laura!! Sharon was THE most beautiful celebrity EVER, I think....

The one who looks unique with sharper features will usually be considered more beautiful. (Sharon=Farrah Fawcett)
