Bonnie and Clyde were a pair of murderous dirt bags, and Bonnie Parker was a vainglorious, cunning sociopath who enjoyed her notoriety. She wasn't the airhead, cutesy ditz as portrayed in this film. There's a reason why they were gunned down like animals.

When I was younger, I loved the film because I thought that they were just a couple of star-crossed lovers/goofy hicks who sort of blundered their way through their robberies and didn't really mean to kill anyone. I imagined they were good people who would've led their lives differently if given the chance. But the reality was so much different.

Actually there was a made for cable movie on them that should be more to your liking. In this one they were as you state “real dirtbags” & Bonnie if anything was portrayed as the real problem out of the 2.
