It's been a long time since this movie came out...I think it could use a remake...not a scene for scene remake or anything but a movie with the same kind of idea, maybe.
The two girls should maybe be unknowns. Mother Superior could be played by Sigourney Weaver. The other nuns could be played by some fine talented actors.
Sorry, hon. The entire Catholic culture and sisterhood as exemplified in this film VANISHED circa 1970.

They could remake it but if would have to be set in the same time period IMO. I'd hate this story set in modern times and don't think it would work well at all.
There wouldn't be much point to a remake apart from exposing new audiences to the original but I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. It's a great movie and remakes have a way of making people take a look at the original.
