Last Cast Member of "The Cage" (1964) Dies.

The first, and unsuccesful Star Trek pilot film was called "The Cage", but the title was changed during production to "The Menagerie".

The title of this episode – the first installment of Star Trek ever produced – was changed in production from "The Cage" to "The Menagerie". However, when the two-part episode "The Menagerie, Part I" and "The Menagerie, Part II" (which reused almost all the footage from this episode) went into production, the title of this installment reverted to "The Cage". (The Star Trek Compendium, 4th ed., p. 10; [1])

Although the episode has a title, and is universally referred to as "The Cage", no episode title actually appears on screen, with the only title used in the credits being "Star Trek".

Anyway, Star Trek fans all call the the pilot film shot in 1964 "The Cage", and call the two 1966 episodes which reused footage from "The Cage" by their common title "the Menagerie", to avoid confusion.

Laurel Godwin (11 August 1942-26 February 2022) portrayed J. M. Colt in "The Cage", and was the last survivor of the seven credited cast member.

This list: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059753/fullcredits/?ref_=tt_cl_sm and this list https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/The_Cage_(episode)#Starring list performers who were uncredited in "The Cage". The second list also includes a list of uncredited roles whose performers are unkown.

Sandra Gimpel (born 17 September 1939) who portrayed a Talosian, is still alive. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Sandra_Gimpel https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0319831/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t10 And maybe some other uncredited performers are also alive.

But all of the credited actors who would have had regular roles in Star Trek if "The Cage" had been a successful pilot film have now died.

But it turns out that Robert Butler (born NOvember 16, 1927) is still alive. He directed "The Cage".

He was older than cast members like Susan Oliver, Leonard Nimoy, Majel Barrett, Peter Duyea, Laurel Goodwin, Adam Roarke, Malachi Throne, Felix Silla, & Serena Sande, but has outlived them.

A very accomplished director.
