When the children sing 'La' a note to follow 'So'

I'm not sure what you are saying here.

In the common do-re-mi scale the note "la" does follow "so." Are you seeing something else?

But in the line from the song, "La, a note to follow So", La precedes So instead of following it. I guess that's the joke the OP is trying to make.
