Amazing film. Cinematic FLARE. Was this really shot in 1965?

This film far surpassed my expectations. I love the Beatles music, but I thought 'help!' would almost just be nothing but some cute shots of the band. Boy was I wrong. I was amazed at the comedy, the multitude of great shots, and most of all, the cleverness involved. I just didn't think it was possible over 40 (!) years ago. Stylistically it is a masterpiece. This could premier today and have high critical acclaim. I just don't know what else to say, this has been the most pleasant surpeise in my recent 'classic film' craze. Anyone who loves 'movie' movies should see this immediately.

In the 90s a guy called Paul Rutan restored both Help and A Hard Days Night for VHS. Part of the reason the movie still looks fantastic today on DVD and Bluray is the great care and attention that went into preserving the film.

Some movies look awful today because no one cared enough or had the $ to clean up the prints or look for better prints. Alas. Like my VHS copy of Magical Mystery Tour looks like hell! I dunno if the DVD is better.

I think this film holds up, and not only because film restoration was well done. Some might think the zaniness is a bit much, but that aside it is a very clever film. I still think I prefer A Hard Day's Night, though. I think that one better captures what the Beatles were all about.
