Favorite lines/parts?

Here are mine.

1. Jack Lemmon telling the dog on his bed 'I hate you.' xD
2. 'I won't do it!' 'Then you leave us with no alternative.' 'I'll do it!'
3. Where Jack Lemmon (as the prince) startles himself with his hand, the 'snake,' hahaha
4. When Hezekiah gets hit right on the the head while walking into the cell.

In fact it seems like there were DOZENS of getting-hit-right-on-the-head shots, and all hilarious.

Very good comedy, those were some of the best moments to me. Yours?

"Leslie has escaped. With a small friar." "He escaped with a chicken?!"

"Push the button, Max!"

"I have a boat waiting."

reply

"Push the button, Max!"

They are all on the ice floe:

Max: "Hey professor, rise and shine."
Fate: "Rise and shine? Rise and SHINE?!! RISE AND SHINE?!!!???"
and Fate plunges into the frigid Bering Sea..

"Hi! Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?"
"Are they made from real Girl Scouts?"

reply

The opening credits are pretty cool. When Tony Curtis' name comes up, you hear cheers. You hear boo's when Jack Lemmon's name appears. And wolf whistles when it's Natalie Woods' turn. Priceless. The intro alone tells you you're in for a treat.

My absolute FAVORITE Part is in Barracho: Professor Fate "Lilly's his girl" & then stricks a match on his teeth and his "Owwww" response just lays me out. My Dad used to smoke a pipe & had stick matches available. Yes we tried many times.

"Are they made from real Girl Scouts?"

Was that a line from one of the " The Munsters" shows?

Eight divided by one-half equals four squared!

reply

That was from the first Addams family movie, delivered completely deadpan by the very excellent Christina Ricci.

One of my favorite lines!

"Hi! Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies?"
"Are they made from real Girl Scouts?"

reply

OH! I THOUGHT it was a funny monster movie/show! Thank you VERY much!

Jack Lemmon and the little dogs.

Get off the bed!

I hate you!

Peter Falk: I've come to see the Great Leslie.
Guard: I'm sorry Padre, the Great Leslie is allowed no visitors.
Peter Falk: I understand. Bless you my son. BONK!

Jack Lemmon(as the prince) startles himself with his hand as a 'snake.'

Great Leslie: Are you a native of Baracho?
Miss Olay: I ain't no native! I was born here!

In the saloon:
Jack Lemmon: Pardon me, Mr. Pardner who is this Texas Jack?
then striking the match on his teeth..OOOUUUUCCCCHHHH!

Natalie Wood is hit with her first pie in the pie fight..she gets very angry and says OOOOHHHHH!

On the iceberg:
Natalie Wood: Come and get it!
Peter Falk: Maybe she don't mean us.

Jack Lemmon as the perpetually drunken crown prince gets hit with a brandy-flavored pie: "Brandy? Brandy!...Throw more pies, throw more pies!"

I love the visual of Fate in his airplane daredevil stunt - in top hat and batwing cape.
The rocket sled is a hoot (esp. the 'Flying Tiger' face on the nose) - nice touch that when they get airborne, on the rear-projected background we can see a railroad trestle, which presumably was the launching ramp.
I always laugh when Max runs into the bakery hollering for the Professor, and promptly gets smacked by a dozen or so pies from all sides - the poor sap never saw it coming!

"You good Leslie, you." ~Prince Hapnick

The pie fight

The Baron makes his exit

Fate lights a match on his teeth and then realizes it hurts

The mayor of Boracho getting punched

Hezekiah getting handcuffed to the train

I WON'T DO IT.
I'm afraid you leave us no choice. (click)
I'LL DO IT.

Number 5's engine is going to fall out!
Max, we're number 5.

There are just so many great funny lines and sight gags in this movie. I love it that so many people love it as much as I do.
In my house "Push the button Max" is used a lot (the hours just fly by!!)
Jack Lemmon was awesome as Fate and Toy Curtis was wonderful as Leslie. They should have made many more movies together. Imagine, "Some Like It Hot" and "The Great Race" in your list of works. Those guys will be immortal!!

"Oh I won't say anything...until the water reaches my upper lip and then I'm gonna mention it to somebody!" ~ Prof Fate
"Push the button Max!"~ Prof Fate.
"I hate you." ~ Prof Fate to the dogs.
Fate will always be my favorite comedic villain, and Jack one of my fave actors. Fate is unique because in all his movies..he never did a character quite like the good Prof.

reply

Fate definately got the best lines. My favorites:

"I hate you" to the little dogs.

"Stupid kids" to Max, after answering Maggie's call at the gate.

"Leslie escaped with a CHICKEN?"

Max had some good ones, too, namely his answer to Maggie's gate call: "Beat it little girl or I'll sick the dogs on ya."

reply

haha oh there's so many! most of the best parts have already been mentioned but I really loved the snapping off of Fate's moustache when they were in the Arctic, Classic!

reply

"Push the button,Max!" - Prof. Fate

"Max, you idiot!" - Prof. Fate

"You're lucky it didn't blow up on you." - Hezekiah

The sequence just after Max returns to the Fate garage with the stolen Rolls-Royce magneto. The audience is introduced to one of the greatest cars of all time...
Prof. Fate: "It's ready."
Max: "Yes, it's ready."
Prof. Fate: "There has never been anything like this."
Max: "Professor,your greatest creation."
Prof. Fate: "The work of genius. The finest parts from the greatest automobiles in the world...THE HANNIBAL TWIN 8!"

"I am simply, Leslie...and I am at your service." - The Great Leslie

And one for the railfans out there...
On the iceberg...
The Great Leslie: "If I didn't know any better, I would say that's..."
Hezekiah: "It's me!" (smacking the top of his bald head)
The Great Leslie: "Hezekiah."
Miss DuBois: "What???"
Back on land...
The Great Leslie: "You gave me your word and I trusted you. Then you handcuffed Hezekiah to the ATCHISON, TOPEKA & SANTA FE."
Miss DuBois: "It was the SOUTHERN PACIFIC!"
The Great Leslie: "What does that got do with it? You gave me your word."

I could go on. There are so many good lines. I liken this film to a good "Curly" Three Stooges episode. The more I see it the more I laugh.
