The Organ Playing Always Scared Me...

It's just that tune...ugggghhh it's so eerie. I remember catching this flick on the tube when I was a kid. It scared me senseless, especially the story behind it. >____<"

Haha, I love Don Knotts.

Yes, the first time I heard this music, as a kid, it gave me a couple of shivers, too. Now, thinking back to the movie, all of the music in it is really good - for what it is. It might not be award-winning quality music, but the music that Vic Mizzy wrote for it is PERFECT for the film.

I think it's excellent. Maybe it should've won some awards.

I think Vic Mizzy was a musical genius. His work in this film is great, but I think he did his best work in a movie called "The Night Walker". If not for his music, this movie would have been low B grade. However, the music made it a quite watchable B movie that actually will live up to the title of a thriller.

I remember this movie being one of the scariest movies ever just for that scene and the scene when he's lying on the couch in his sleeping bag and hearings the stairs creeking like someones walking down them. Very spine tingling stuff lol. but excellent movie.

I bought the piece from Itunes and every so often when things get strange I play it.

I'd spring for that tune.....does it have a formal name that can be searched?

reply

It's called The Haunted Organ Theme and it IS available as a free ringtone. Great for this time of year.

reply

Me too! Just thinking of that tune was enough to keep me up at night. The janitor's telling of the Simmons' murder totally creeped me out too.

awesome post...i just flipped to this movie on TV and was telling my wife and newborn that it is a childhood favorite...suddenly the scene where luthor first see's the piano playing itself comes on...i got huge goosebumps. Love this movie. The final scene is still one of the all time best and spookiest endings!

I too loved this movie as a kid, the organ music was pretty spooky! Perhaps it was because we used our own imaginations!

Your newborn speaks?

I agree...top film and excellent score. That organ music...so eerie!

Same with me. Actually, the whole movie really scared me when I was a kid. I also just realized that Phil Ober was in "From Here to Eternity," also. He played a dick-weed in that one, too.

The organ plying by itself and its music is still so creepy today! When he gets to the mansion - don knotts was so funny and yet i felt so scared for him! Him throwing the book(s) at the bookcase (or was it the fireplace?), the garden shears stabbed into the painting and blood running down, the crazy way the light from the flaslight went everywhere..., and don's faces, expressions - so scary and so funny at the same time! LOVE this film! As a kid, though, i have to admit i always was bored by the 'normal', non- scary parts of the film. As an adult watching those scenes, i appreciate them better, but still prefer the spooky scenes. Loved when luther has the paranormal group at the house and he tries to re-enact all of the events, failing constantly. Just love this movie; it is sweet, funny, creepy, and fun.

And they used Bon Ami!

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

and they used Bon Ami,,,great line...this was perfect for an 8 year old, and i'm watching it now 12/13/14 but had to hit imdb so see what others thought

the organ music! the sliding walls! great fun. the other Don Knott's movies, well i saw Reluctant Astronaut, thought it better than Dick Van Dyke as Robin Curuso, US NAVY or whatever....but after that I missed rest of his career until THREE'S COMPANY....now i like to hit him up, great 2nd banana that could be the strange little leading man!
