Best anthology horror movie?

It is certainly my favourite. It has all the right ingredients: Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Donald Sutherland, wonderful sets, eerie music. Unlike 'Vault of horror', 'tales from the crypt' & 'Asylum', I think "Dr. Terrors...." doesn't have a weak segment. Roy Castle brings some great charisma to a dark humoured voodoo story and Alan Freeman's plant is very spooky and reminiscent of the 'day of the triffids'. Chistopher Lee gives a fantastic performance as an arrogant art critic who gets his come-uppance.

I too recall being scared witless as a child after a late night friday showing. Classic stuff.

The middle segment, Voodoo, is definitely the weakest, the music numbers are too long, but the last minutes are pretty fun. I enjoyed the last two segments better than the first, actually. Creeping vine was a little too simplistic while Werewolf seemed to pack too much in one story. But this is nitpicking, all in all it was jolly good fun!

Hehe. You just mentioned my two favorite segments, Werewolf and Voodoo. I personally thought they were the best parts. Winner is ofcourse the wraparound train story.

You didn't think there were too many music scenes in Voodoo?

Well, no. Maybe it's because I love the music they're playing, and when the voodoo rhythms are jazzed up, they sound somewhat enchanting. Then the wind starts to blow and it becomes creepy. Talk about melo-drama!

What I didn't understand, though, is why the trumpet player needed to write down the voodoo rhythmic pattern and then change it for his own music. Some patterns are the same, some are not.

'Black Sabbath'(Italian version, though sans Karloff's voice sadly) and 'The House That Dripped Blood' are probably my two very favorite ones currently. But there are of course many other great horror anthologies out there as well.

Tales From the Crypt is not only my favorite Amicus anthology film but also my favorite anthology film altogether. I love everything about it from the cast to the characters, the Gothic atmosphere, and all the stories.

Having just spent the last couple of weeks re-playing my way through my collection of 'anthology' films, I would have to say the "Dr Terror's House of Horrors" is definitely my favourite!!

And I am unanimous in that.........

No, it's far from it, but it's still a fun little film, with some decent stories.
