cast for remake
if they did a remake, which theyre due. ater reading the book, i think crispen glover would make a perfect freddie clegg, he has the quiet submissive, creepy guy thing going for him. scarlet johansen would make a good miranda.

shareGlover is too old for the part. He's in his 40s. The part needs someone who is between 25 & 30. The girl needs to be about 20. If I were casting I'd go for unknowns. It would be a career maker for both.
No, Glover's TOO creepy. He'd never have got away with it, people would have been suspicious of him right away. I imagine Freddie as bland and lifeless-looking, the sort of person you'd pass in the street and never even notice him. And Johanssen as Miranda? Never! She's WAY too hot and sexy. Anyone picked to play Miranda should have a translucent, ethereal beauty, like a dying flower. I always pictured her as looking something like Nico (of Velvet Undergound fame).
And no offense, but if they MUST do a remake I think they'd be well advised to use a British cast.
"That, - Captain Bligh, - that is the thing; - I am in hell, sir - I am in hell."
I think Scarlett Johnannson would be a good choice - she has the beauty and spirit that I think Miranda would have.
Christain Bale and Jaoqin Phoenix are too good lookinging to play Freddie..but then Matt Damon did a great job as being the wierd/creepy Tom Ripley in Talented Mr Ripley so who knows - it would be a fantastic role for sure! Someone mentioned Paul Bethany - he would be good...I dont think Cilliam Murphy would suit - I always imagined Freddie as a big guy....maybe Ewan McGregor or Jake Gllynhal (looking less attractive than they ususally do of course!)....or maybe James McEvoy (again though i think he would be a bit small)
Work is the curse of the drinking classes....
I think Jude Law would be good for Clegg and Kate Beckinsale for Miranda. Best to stick with brits here. I would add, however, that a remake would be difficult to pull off since the "times have changed". The morality and sexual tension of the sixties would translate strangely to a contemporary setting. Might be most interesting to keep the story in the original sixties setting.
shareLeave it alone. No remake necessary.
shareI totally agree with everything you said. I just watched this movie and everything about the character freddie reminded me of Jude Law. He can be so creepy and Intimate for lack of better words. Kate Beckinsale also kept popping into my had while watching this movie and think she woul dbe perfect but after reading some of these posts I think Isla Fischer not only looks younger but could also play a possible miranda/ And I dont think they should change too much maybe keep it retro like the remake of physco.

I haven't seen this film (yet!) but I'm reading the book, just coming to the end =-/
Frederick ... Ioan Gruffudd
Miranda ... Jayne Wisener
Aunt Annie ... Annette Badland
'She's the one I've waited for' - Judi Dench.
I don't care who plays everyone else but desmond harrington has got to play frederick. He has an amzing likeness to young terrance stamp, and he's played characters like frederick before. like in love object. He's perfect for the role.
After I got to Sin City, all the color came back.
He has an amazing likeness to young terrance stampUmmm...That's great if they were casting a film biography about Stamp, but they would be casting the role of Freddie, not the role of Stamp portraying Freddie!
i never said they were casting the role of stamp portraying Freddie. But facial features help with the character... a lot, and since Stamp looked the part I thought Harrington would look amazing too.
