I liked the movie better than the book.
shareI read the book two times, it is one of my favorite books... for me, the movie was not so grate...
The book is more powerful.
Your screen name leads one to think that you have some spiritual or mental problem....I read the book recently (have not seen the movie), but one thing that strikes me about the book is that the kidnapper is clearly protrayed as an emotionally stunted, pathetic, and very unattractive individual. That is why having Terence Stamp, one of the most charismatic actors around, and extremely good-looking when young, seems such a strange choice. It sounds as if the character in the movie is made the center of interest whereas in the book the girl was at least as important. Her vitality, sensitivity and love of life is is in complete contrast to the stupid though cunning villain.
shareThat is why having Terence Stamp, one of the most charismatic actors around, and extremely good-looking when young, seems such a strange choice.It's true Terence Stamp was a handsome man, but he manages to make himself extremely creepy and unattractive in this movie. I started out trying to understand his point of view, but it soon became apparent that he was beyond hope or help.
@commanderjeltz
Actually it was a pretty interesting choice to cast Stamp as the villain here because it basically broke this lame stereotype that villains in movies always have to be unattractive and disgusting---a good reminder that looks don't always have anything to do with how evil one can be on the inside,and that's also true in real life.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I sure hope you borrowed your copy from a friend or bought it w/ cash and didn't get it from the library or buy it w/ debit/credit card because I have heard for years that the names of anyone who checks out of a library or buys this book gets added to a list maintained by the FBI of potential suspects for use in unsolved kidnapping & and murder cases.
shareYeah,right,lol.
