Ann-Margret vs Tuesday Weld

Regardless of which characters they actually played in the film, whom do you prefer? As for acting I believe Ann-Margret was a little better than Weld. And lookswise it was not much of contest IMO. Ann is unbelievably beautiful and sexy at the same time, while I find Tuesday to be just pretty. What did you think?
And, as a little dirty question: who'd win a catfight between them? Again, my money'd be on Ann. I'd love to hear your opinions!

Tough call. It's one of those questions that could go either way for different reasons. Ann-Margret is the type that appeals to a guy on the purely glandular level. The sexy bimbo that you think you want, but once you have it, you find that its all superficial and that appearances are all there is to her. Beauty is skin deep but ugly goes clear to the bone. She's a shallow, superficial, conceited slut who would eventually get bored with you, and without a shred of conscience, and start looking for something else new and exciting. (Ladies, guys do that too. I know that knife cuts both ways)
Tuesday Weld, on the other hand is much less obvious about her sexuality, but no less intense. She feels that she has just as much (loyalty) to offer as any other woman..but it has to be the right man who would appreciate her for who she is inside and not just for her looks. Definitely the girl-next-door.
Sort of like asking, Who did you like better, Ginger or Mary Ann?
Personally..Ill take the Mary Ann type in a heartbeat.

Winner of catfight would be A-M. (She was, by the way, a favorite of Tennessee Williams).
Spoiler follows: Love that scene near the end where Tuesday catches A-M with Stevie. Is that Classic or what?!
Both beautiful.
In the Acting Dept I rate A-M and Tuesday as a tie, both in different ways Wonderful.

Ask Elvis Presley. He had an affair with both of them. He would know for sure.

Oh wait, he's dead. Guess we'll have to find another way to find out. ;-)

The pelvis got around.... But back to A-M: an earlier season of Mad Men features Sal's hilarious A-M impersonation (for his wife, no less) and Don's frank admiration of the real A-M.

It would be a DREAM to have to decide this in real life back then.

The pick would always be Ann-Margret for me

Doesn't it give you a headache asking stupid questions?

It's completely the opposite. AM is "just pretty". I think people are biased because 1) guys with a ginger fetish tend to forget that hair colour does NOT make YOU yourself pretty, and 2) acting sexy/slutty does NOT make you actually sexy. Tuesday is a more subtle, underrated beauty. Ann is just kind of a generic sex kitten. It's like, meh, they're a dime a dozen back then, they're a penny a dozen now.

Plus, the Betty/Mary Anne will always beat the Veronica/Ginger

Definitely Ann-Margret. Christian is the better character than Melba, but Ann-Margret is a legend. Each actress was appropriately cast in the right character though.

They were both fine in this film, but I give Weld a slight edge.

Miss Weld portrays a more important character in the movie . . . it's actually her story . . . Melba is more of a sidebar . . .

First of all, great great casting to have both these fine and attractive actresses in the film. Putting aside the rest of their respective careers, to which I think one has to give Ann Margret the nod, I would say the following about their portrayals in this film:

In the sense of a static display of beauty, AM is the winner, and that is not necessarily a big victory as to my mind the screenplay and direction demand such a conclusion. In other words the character of Christian is literally not supposed to be seen on a superficial level as the more attractive.

But to actually live with one character or the other? Again the answer could not be more obvious, as it was clearly intended that for the Kid, Christian is both the one he wants and the right choice. For the long run.

It is a simple matter of how character over time is an essential part of attraction. The superficial only carries you so far.

As far as acting, it is no knock on AM as an actress to note that her character, while portrayed quite well by her, simply did not require the depth of portrayal that was required of Weld. Imo Weld plays her more difficult part extremely well. It is an utterly convincing performance.

And again ftr I am not at all speaking here to the overall respective careers of the two or for that matter the relative attractiveness of the two in real life as it were.

But in this film, I preferred Tuesday Weld.
