ANN-MARGARET WOULD HAVE ADDED A LOT

SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN WAY BETTER, SEXIER, AND MORE IMPORTENT IN THE ROLSE OF CAT THAN THE WITCH FONDA.

I can't agree. Jane Fonda was excellent in this role. I suspect your opinion has something to do with your politics.

reply

The posts from Fonda haters always tell us more about them than about Jane.

I actually saw a bumper sticker with reference to Hanoi Jane on the submarine base in Groton a couple of years ago. The car was newish so they must have saved the bumper sticker from earlier.

Wouldn't it be nice if we judged actors/actresses on their acting rather than their personal/political/religious lives?

reply

It would- so stop trawling the Internet for ,"racist/sexist/homophobic " comments made years ago!

Ann-Margret would have been an excellent Cat, but she'd have played it like Annie Oakley, without the vulnerability that Jane Fonda brought to the character.

Conventionality is not morality.

No, I think Ann-Margaret would have been better. There was always something stiff about Fonda, both in her sexy-starlet days and later as a serious dramatist. The stiffness worked well in some roles, but not here. I love the film even though she didn't give a great performance as the lead, but yeah, when I saw Ann-Margaret's name I immediately thought "Oh yeah, that would have fixed that!".

IMHO Ann-Margaret was not only a sexier young starlet during the 1960s, she grew up to be a better actress overall. She could do comedy and pain and anger and brittleness and yes, vulnerability. And sexy! One thing about Fonda's performance is that she never seemed attracted to her boyfriend, that wouldn't have been a problem with Ann-Margaret.

Sorry, But Ann didn't have the right "spunk" that Jane brings to the role. Ann is perfect for movies like "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Viva las Vegas" but not satiracal movies like Cat Ballou. Ann's good, but lets face it Jane is the better actress by far. All politics aside.

reply

Ann-Margaret would have added a lot - - - to my pants, and I think I could have solved the right "spunk" problem for her.

Give me a call Ann, I'll fix ya' right up.

reply

Ann-Margaret as Cat Ballou's slutty sister. Yeah, right.
LOL Ann-Margaret. What a whore.

There's no need to post garbage like that reb73162.

Ann-Margret was offered the role but turned it down due to the advice of her managers at the time. I would like to have seen what she could have done with the role.

reply

Jane is certainly the more gifted actress, but in this case Ann-Margaret would have been a suitable choice as well. The role is hardly taxing or deep. Jane brings more intelligence; Ann more sultriness.

While I like Ann Margaret I don't think the movie would have worked as well with her as Cat. Jane Fonda was very beautiful but also came across as brainy. Ann Margaret seemed to be more sex-pot. I feel that Ann Margaret's Cat would have relied more on her looks and sex appeal to get her way rather than thinking outside the box. Would Ann's Cat gotten her hands dirty (so to speak) by actually taking up a life a crime? I don't think so. She would have seduced a man to do it for her.

For me Cat Ballou was a modern type of woman and Jane Fonda captured that quality.

reply

Good point. Jane as in Comes a Horseman is more convincing as a grown up tomboy.

I've never seen a man get through a day so fast.

I love Ann-Margaret, and have a strong dislike of Jane Fonda. That being said, I disagree with you completely. I just couldn't help but fall in love with Cat Ballou in this film. Hard not to. She was perfect in that role. Ann-Margaret may have been great as well, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Jane Fonda was excellent.

reply

Love her or hate her, Jane Fonda had one thing over Ann Margaret.

She was a much better actress.
