No Dr Smith... would you watch?
Well? In honesty, I wouldn't!

I believe Dr Smith was a late addition, but he stole the show... yes, and I agree it would have gone down without him.
Gary Oldman had a good crack, but it was not the same.

LIS would prolly have been a much better show if all 3 seasons were like the first half or so of season 1.
You don't really need Smith when you have a new "Villain of the week" every ep.
They could have kept things serious like Star Trek with a few light moments here and there.
John should have let Don 86 Smith the first time he put his family in jeopardy.

Rickel819, do you mean ANTAGONIST?
shareLate addition? Smith was in the pilot episode.
shareWell, I can hardly imagine the show without Dr. Smith, a.k.a. Zachary Taylor. He did keep rather dule material moving. And somewhat slow acting. Can one imagine Family Matters without Eurckel!
shareI can't believe Zachary Harris', sorry about that Taylor biz earlier, character stayed on the show! His fondness for Will had PERV written all over it. I'm surprised John & his wife ? weren't suspicious!
shareNot really. We assume any kind of friendliness with children is sexual now but there's no sign of it in this. A sad situation.
It goes more like this. Smith is a pariah and so lonely. Will is the only one much friendly to him. Also Will haa a little boy's sense of mischief... as curiously does Smith. He's not a complete goody two shoes. Thirdly, Will is more easily manipulated than the rest.

I agree it's a shame people today think relationships between young and old as somehow perverted, or even close relationships between two men as homosexual.
Last year I was in my home playing my piano. A 9-year old neighbor girl heard me as she was walking by. She knocked on my door and asked if she could come in and play it, but I had to say no. My wife wasn't home and her parents didn't know where she was. I would have opened myself to some bad accusations had I let her come in.
Part of me, though, wished it had been the '50s. I could have let her come in and play the piano. I could have given her ice cream or lemon aid. We could have talked about music. I could have potentially started her down the path of being a fine musician. And I doubt anyone would have thought ill of me.
But in 2015, people would assume that I had sexually molested her. I wish I understood why people are so obsessed with sexual perversion today.
In the 1960s, and so projected into their fictional future, adults were allowed to speak to children, even to have friendships with them, without everyone running around screaming "pedophilia!" with their heads exploding. Today we segregate into ridiculously named "generations" every few years with little crossover contact, and children are isolated from adults outside their immediate families. We live in a bizarre world.
shareI agree 100%. This naming of generations has gotten super ridiculous lately. People used to talk about Boomers and Generation X had a name. But we rarely talked about or acknowledged such nonsense. Now the "generations" are all carefully named and described in neat proscribed categories.
shareI would have. When it originally aired I was 11 and more into the special effects and bug-eyed monsters. Dr. Smith was a simple distraction.

Yes, I would. I'm not a big fan of Smith's as it is. I don't like the evil Smith from the show's start or the buffoon Smith from later in the series. I do think, though, that this show needs a character who is separate from the main crew, I just don't like the Smith we got.
shareI don't know. He was really annoying but added a lot to the show.
shareHe was the most entertaining member of the cast, for sure. Although I remember as a kid the oldest daughter was quite a good reason for me to watch!
