I'm not sure I want to see a movie 40+ years after the show ended. Most movies based on old TV shows blow (see Space, Lost in).

I'm quite sure that I don't want to see a Hogan's Heroes movie. The series and those actors had a unique charm that can never be re-created. Why even try?

That, and the fact that Hollywood seems to now be fully populated by people whom, if one of them ever had an original idea, would have to watch it die from the enforced solitude.

reply

That's not always the case:

Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, and Naked Gun come immediately to mind.

A bad Hogan's Heroes movie is still better than no Hogan's Heroes movie at all. If it sucks it sucks. It doesn't change the fact that the show was great.

If you're concerned about it sucking, wait for the reviews, and if they're bad, don't watch them. The fact that the show was great, and the concept was so unique alone makes the movie interesting. A terrible movie would only ruin the show for people who are weak and petty enough to let it ruin it for them.

Well, no.

A bad movie ruins the show for younger people (potential new viewers) who decide that it's not worth checking out the show because in their mind that title and premise is associated with a cr@pfest of a movie. Sorta like what has happened to the original Rollerball after the horrific remake.

Exactly! Get Smart was my favorite show and I was psyched for The Nude Bomb. It wasn't very good, but it didn't make the series any less great

I feel the same way about the Dick van Dyke reunion show. It was very average but was glad to see what those characters had been up to in the ensuing years.

The Fugitive is another shining example. Maverick, The Brady Bunch Movie, The A-Team, and The Addams Family were good too. The important thing is that they keep the fans in mind and don't alienate them with all the "change for the sake of change" that can mess up a movie adaption. (Leave it to Beaver, Lost in Space, Wild Wild West...)

ONLY if Vin Diesel is Klink and there are countless Red Bull product placements throughout the R rated film! Otherwise, why bother?

reply

I nominate my hometown hero John Goodman to play the part of Schultz.

reply

Although I'd certainly be skeptical of any HH movie being any good, since it couldn't even have (m)any cameos by original cast members as there are so few still living, I could see Goodman as Schultz. Just for fun, I once cast a theoretical movie version in my own mind. I can't remember who I wanted for any part except Newkirk... I think British actor Danny Dyer would do a great job (and I say that as someone who loved Richard Dawson in the part).

reply

How about Craig Ferguson as Newkirk?

reply

Hmmm... that's not a bad idea. Ferguson might be a little old to play a corporal, but I bet he'd do a fine job!

reply

And how about Robert Knepper as Major Hochstader?

reply

why not, most movies stink today anyway and one more thing I'll see it only if that bum Will Ferrell is NOT in it.he ruin Bewitched movie.

And he also completely ruined the Land of the Lost movie.

reply

The original script was set in Vietnam, perhaps they should dust off that idea.

reply

It was set in a regular prison. The network didn't like the idea of "Robin Hood" convicts sneaking in and out.

Imdb says Bernard Fein died in 1980 - his contribution should be quite interesting.

I just saw Monuments Men. I really enjoyed it. If they could pull off a new Hogan's Heroes with that kind of feel, I would be happy with it. As a matter of fact, it probably would've been a new way to go with getting the crew that remade Ocean's 13 together again. Probably wouldn't work now, since Clooney and Damon just did Monuments Men. Nice idea though.

I thought there was already a movie based on this, called Stalag 17.

Just kidding, btw, before anyone corrects me.

reply

Stalag 17 was released in 1953.

I think Montro was making a joke .

I can't tell sometimes on these things.
