Did Gidget Crack ABC's 'Color Barrier'?

Does anyone know if "Gidget" was indeed ABC's first series to air in color? Most of the other shows before that were in black-and-white, I have no recollection of any of them switching to color before "Gidget" aired. Also, anyone know what did happen to either Betty Conner or Lynette Winter? I only remember seeing Lynette as a guest on "Family Affair", and according to her credits, she only made a few more appearances on "Petticoat Junction" - after that, nothing more.

The last two season of The Lone Ranger were in color. The show premiered on ABC on 15 September 1949 (Thursdays 7:30-8:00) and was last telecast on the 12th September 1957. This was the only ABC program to rank in the top 15 when the A.C. Neilsen Co. began compiling national ratings for network programs.
