So where did Santa find homes for the defective - sorry - misfit toys?

He presumably knew which kids would appreciate them. Do you suppose he left them as little bonuses alongside regular gifts or gave them to borderline cases who just barely a avoided lumps of coal?

it would be difficult to show a 'solid future' to audiences in 1964--who were themselves still being locked up in institutions for being 'different' (disabled). The 'unknown' was more magical and wonderous.
