I feel sorry for her more than anything. I love the scene where Maxine is about to confront her with her repressed lesbianism and Shannon rescues her. It shows that he's still basically decent and that even he has some empathy for Miss Fellowes.

That was a very good scene, and a lesson to all of us.

It's funny that the Lesbianism thing in this movie is not a thing anymore - so what?
That's probably for the better, and it was not her lesbianism but her unconcsiousness
of herself. Then on the other hand, why did they just think she was gay because she
was a mean old miserable women? That's the one thing I would pick at in this movie.

Watching the film for the first time, I felt the same way. Revisiting it the other night, though, I also tended towards feeling sorry for her more than anything. In any case, what a great performance by Grayson Hall.

Could any hell be more horrible than now and real?

There are a heck of a lot of people in the US who are like Miss Fellowes ... willfully blind and ignorant. I really love this movie and I am not really quite sure why, but it is really great.

I couldn't stand that dried up old bag either, but really couldn't stand Sue Lyon's character of Charlotte. She knew all good & well that Shannon could lose his livelihood and be reported by that bellowing hag, yet she kept throwing herself at Shannon, sneaking into his hotel room, following him out to the water, sitting too close and causing the man even more misery. I hated her character so much! That little c*cktease routine was getting old already, especially after she played the exact same character in Lolita.

Teenage girls are amazingly hot to trot, probably just as much or more than teen-age boys and some of them love to cause incidents and rebel. And I think it would hard to resist. It was the rev's fault that after succumbing to her temptations he let himself get caught.

reply

Yeah, well, we all know at least 2 just like her --- Probably more
