It's a strange film done in a strange style. For Hitchcock fans it gets better with time, for others it probably just seems very strange. In his interview with the french director Francois Truffaut, Hitchcock admitted he was not really comfortable with the material, and supporting actress Diane Baker said she wished an additional scene with her and Hedren had been left in the film. So it was not a perfect production, it could have been better. The first time I saw it I wondered why characters like "Cousin Bob" were even it for just s minute, why Lil would want to put them all in danger (seemed very odd), and why Mark was acting so weird, like buying her that very expensive ring, seemed very strange.
