Frank Sutton is King !!!

That show goes nowhere without Frank Sutton.
Sgt. Carter was the funny one, sure Nabors was talented as
was important but think about it most of the time your
laughing at Sgt. Carter getting mad.
If you remember Andy Griffith was suppose to be the funny one
and after the first episode he knew he couldn't compete with
the great Don Knotts.

He was Abbott to Nabors' Costello.

The straight man rarely gets the credit he deserves.

You are right- this show would never had been so successful w/o Sgt Carter. It was his over-the-top anger, outrage and frustration with Pyle that had me in stitches! I could always imagine Carter being rushed to the hospital for a stroke due to some stupid thing Pyle had done. The "pilot" episode (from The Andy Griffith Show) where Pyle comes walking up with Carter's dress blues on was hilarious! Carter's head was shaking and his mouth was quivering b/c he couldn't control his anger.

There are several great characters in this show. Sutton stole the show, no doubt about it, but I think the show was perfectly cast all around. Pyle, Boyle, Slater, Hacker, etc., I can't imagine anyone playing any of those roles as well as the people who did.

I can't believe it has been over 40 years since Frank Sutton passed away from a heart attack. He was only 50 years old.

FRANK SUTTON

Sheer comedic genius... Jeez he was great.. Nabors got the accolades but it was Frank Sutton that made it work.

Carter's tirades on Pyle were sublime.

"Well what is it Pyle, are you here because you think I'm giving you a pass?.. Is that what you think Pyle? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!......"

I loved Frank Sutton. What an amazing actor. I saw him in an episode of Route 66, "To Walk With The Serpent," and he was so unlike Sgt. Carter. He was riveting. We lost him far too soon.

I'd put a stupid saying here but I won't.
