We’re in for a Bad Spell

Very clever second season episode when Darrin’s old army buddy Adam Newlarkin comes to town. He is originally from Salem and when bad things start to happen to him, Samantha fears that he’s been cursed.

A very good showing by Aunt Clara. It proves that she is smart, just slowing down. She finds the right spell to remove the curse. Adam’s ancestor was a judge at the Salem witch trials and one of the accused put a curse on him and his descendant, Adam.

Here’s the blooper though. One part of the spell has Adam riding through town on a horse and, “ Crying out like Paul Revere, witches are good, witches are dear.”

One of my favorite episodes, but it hit me when I watched it recently. The Salem trial ended in the late 1600’s, 1693 to be exact. But Paul Revere was not born until 1735! How would this woman know his name? And his famous ride came much later. There were no witch trials at the time of the Revolution.

Very funny episode. But the writers either didn’t know their history or hoped that the audience didn’t.
