Which Louise?

Did you like Irene Vernon or Casey Rogers better?

I preferred the first Louise. Somehow she seemed like a better match for Larry. I don’t know why. But I liked her better.

Interesting detail that the show got wrong was in the first season when Louise was nervous about telling Larry that they were finally going to be parents, she tells Sam that they have been married for sixteen years.

In the fourth season Darrin is hellbent on keeping Larry from breaking his leg on what he thinks is the Tate’s second honeymoon. Larry informs him it is their first honeymoon because when they were going on their first honeymoon TEN years ago, he broke his leg.

By that time the Tates were married twenty years! Didn’t anyone keep up with background details?😆

I think Casey Rogers was simply better looking which is why I liked he better, but I also she looked much better as a brunette than the redhead she was in later years. I thought I read somewhere that she was a natural redhead but she didn't seem to look like one.

An anecdote about Casey Roger’s dark wig that I read in a Bewitched book. At first they wanted her to wear a wig to cover her red hair. The show had just gone to color. They probably thought it would be too jarring.

After a few years she went to the producers and said that she didn’t want to wear the wig anymore. There response was to ask her why she was wearing it! Apparently they didn’t care anymore, but she thought that they did.

Who knows whose hair color is real or not? Bobby Brady (Mike Lookinland) on the Brady Bunch had naturally dark blond hair. But they wanted him to look like his TV dad and brothers. So they dyed it.

Irene Vernon was a much better actor, albeit colder in the role. Look how great Vernon is in, say, "My Grandson, the Warlock." Played comedy so well (think the martini: "Hit me again, Larry"). Kasey Rogers was lovely in small scenes, but the minute she starts with the tears ...awful ("Samantha Loses Her Voice").

It also didn’t help that they gave Kasey Rogers some dumb material to play.

I just watched “Samantha Loses her Voice” a few days ago.

I’m always struck by how silly Louise’s behavior is in that one. She is leaving Larry over a volleyball game?😫 Sounds like something a teen-age girl would do when breaking up with her boyfriend.

She is dressed to the nines and carrying suitcases. Why did she have to make a pit stop at the Stephens home? And where was little Jonathan? She was leaving Larry, was she also leaving her child behind?

Sure there had to be a mortal witness to the magical stuff going on, but they could have given Louise a better reason to be there!
