I saw this at age 5 and can remember only the drop of water segment and could not sleep for many nights thereafter yet I watch it today and it does not hold up as well as it did in my youth.
I had many nightmares of that witch floating around corners and covering all exits it was just terrifying to a young child back in the days before X-rated horror became mainstream. Yes back in the day some horror carried an X rating courtesy of the censors.

just watched Black Sabbath last night and The Drop of water scared the heck outta me!!! ive seen so many horror films i dont tend to find them scary anymore so when i am scared its really got to be a gem!

reply

I wasn't afraid watching it on the movie, but I would definitely be afraid of it if I saw it in real life.

Death lives in the Vault of Horror!

I saw the movie "Black Sabbath" when I was 9 year old at the movie theater. Without a doubt, The Drop of water was the scariest thing I had ever seen at the movies!!. All through the years I remembered it. The other 2 I totally forgot.. But yes!!! verrrry scarey!!

Rather the most boring thing in the history of horror.

reply

The first story was certainly the best and scariest of the three.

Saw this for the first time the other day. I am in my 40s and have seen virtually all of the classic horror films (and have read a large number of horror/ghost stories).

The "Drop of Water" segment was the film's best, and indeed, the crone's appearance and the way she was used by the filmmakers was literally spine tingling.

She embodies, par excellence (along with Max Schreck's Count Orlok), the dreadful fantasy of an animated/restless corpse.

Holy crap, I just saw 'Drop of Water' for the first time - in broad daylight, shades open, sun shining in - and still had cold chills running up and down my spine. Whew, quite fun!

DITTO!! The Exorcist didn't even scare me as much as the corpse in A Drop of Water! Brilliant!
