Movies Similar to Hud?
I didn't really compare the movies and analyze, but these came to mind:
Five Easy Pieces
Baby the Rain Must Fall

I'm surprised no one has suggested this one yet. No Country For Old Men is very reminiscent of Hud. There are no familial relationships, and the "anti-hero" is a serial killer. But everything else about the film patterns themes in Hud; such as the passing of the previous generation and way of life. How morality is not rewarded in the "real" world, yet morality defines us. The ruthlessness of the younger generation. The cluelessness of outside society. The helplessness of the passing generation. The brutal, yet frank nature of Hud and Chigurh. How evil is palpable where there is an absence of human empathy. Thoughts, anyone?
shareFrom 1961-'63, there was a gaggle of movies that commiserated the disintegration of the "old west".
They were:
The Misfits
Lonely Are the Brave (already mentioned)
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Ride the High Country
Hud
