I hated them both and felt sorry for them both *Spoilers*

I saw this movie years ago, and even read the book. I just re-watched this great film last night, and I'm a little conflicted about our two main characters.

I couldn't stand them, but at the same time, I felt sorry for them. They both started off as unlikable. Jane was a spoiled princess, and Blanche was filled with hatred for her. Later on, we find out the reason Blanche tried to run Jane down, is because Jane was making fun of her at a party they both went to. I don't condone trying to run someone down, but at the same time, I could see where Blanche's anger came from.

Jane was Daddy's favorite, obviously. Blanche got yelled at simply because she said she didn't want any ice cream. Then Blanche has that clause in her contract, saying that Jane has to be in all of Blanche's films. Then Jane mocks Blanche at the party. I'm blabbering on, so I will cut this short.

Blanche trying to run Jane down was horrible, and letting Jane take the blame was horrible, too. That's what made me not like Blanche. Jane is a whole other story. She was always unlikable. No, she didn't deserve to be run down, and have her life ruined.

But Jane was no saint. She killed an innocent woman, as well as an innocent bird! Blanche was stuck in her room, and never got to go outside, or interact with anybody outside of Jane and Elvira. Well, except for the doctor on the phone. Jane was also rude to the neighbor lady because she was jealous of Blanche's success as an actress.

Blanche ended up feeling tremendous guilt for what she did to Jane, and was sorry, so in the end, I forgave her, because I think she was really and truly sorry. Jane, on the other hand, wasn't sorry for anything she did. Yes, I know she went nuts, but she knew what was going on, and what she was doing. They were both unlikable people, and I do feel sorry for what each of them tried to do to the other, but I think the stuff Jane did to Blanche was pretty brutal.

So am I alone in the not liking them but at the same time, feeling sorry for them?
