Though by 1863 you have Lincoln's Gettysburg Address which says, in paraphrase, that the nation was plunged into civil conflict over "the proposition that all men are created equal."

Yes, except Ranse's question to Pompey was "What's the highest law in the land." That's not the Declaration, it is, as I think Pompey said, the Constitution.
