In the Trivia section on IMDB it says that this movie is often censored to be shown on TV due to excessive smoking and homophobia. The smoking is obvious, but does anyone know where the homophobia comes in. I love this movie and never once have I even noticed a homophobic moment.
Proud to be an American! - Don't hate us 'cause you ain't us!
Ha, excellent !! Thank you for the good relief and humor, I adored it ^_^
It always amazes me how everybody talk calmy about a topic and suddenly comes the hateful-frustrated-in denial-whatever-else nutcase : quite fascinating, I must say !
My poor little big boy, please learn me few things, would you ? Who are these "we" you talk about, all afraid to be alone in your great wisdom ? And then, who are those "them" you make seem like Aliens' dangerous and rampant creatures ? Well, I don't know anything about your own "weenies" - how classy ! - and I certainly don't wish to check, being a gay woman. But "whine" ? In your wicked dreams, big boy ! I came to read this light topic to share a good laugh (I adore Hatari and never saw anything homophobic - how silly !) and now, thanks to your pretty paranoid out-of-nowhere reaction, I just got an other laugh !
And my dream as one of "them" (boo !), you see, is simply that differences will not be that important anymore, one day, because love is always the same everywhere. So I smile a lot, I "whine" not... and I keep hope and humor with me, in my heart ! Try to use a bit of lightness and laugh sometimes and it will do miracles against your pretty manichaeist vision of life. ^_^
I like that. Too many people get hung up on the sex imagery and forget that sex is not about the act, it's about love. Which is probably why so many people screw up their relationships...
My educated guess is that overzealous, hypersensitized gay rights advocates are reading between imaginary lines that could have been the result of their reading between the real lines.
Really? Considering the debate this issue has caused, wouldn't you think some sort of source accreditation might be in order? Anyone can write anything in the trivia section of this site.
There is a scene between Dallas and Pockets early on in the movie when she asks Pockets about Sean and she asks why doesn't he like woman and Pockets says you under a 'gross misapprehension' if you think.....(he doesn't finish the sentence)
But basically she is asking why is he being mean to her and Pockets is interpreting it as she thinks Sean doesn't like woman at all and may possibly be asking if he bats for the other team. I am assuming Red Buttons thought this may have come across as a little homophobic and i suppose it could if you really thought about it, but I never saw it that way.
He could have also meant that Sean was not asexual. There are straight guys who aren't interested in women at all. Since he didn't finish the sentence, the line is open to interpretation.
The queers what everybody and everything to look homophobia. There is just one problem. By trying to claim this, it makes all the homo's look Hetrophobia.
Most movies from that period and earlier showed people smoking, because at that time most adults smoked. As for seeing homophobia in "Hatari!", that is pure lunacy.
