Probably the best movie about alcohol or drug addiction/love, except for maybe Leaving Las Vegas. The acting is amazing and the events are real and believable. This film is enough to make me never ever touch a drop of alcohol.

The true masterpiece of this film is the script. This film is driven by the writing, and there is so much meat in this script that the actors involved must have thought they'd died & gone to heaven. This is the pinnacle of Hollywood drama in its era and for most others as well.
shareI'm not sure the intention of the film was to stop people from ever touching alcohol again! A truly fantastic film, I have just watched it and the greenhouse scene had me both fascinated and horrified at the same time. The need to cry was too much and I felt physically sick with empathy. When he goes to her when she is in the motel I died when he took a glass of gin. I was tugging at my hair with frustration. It felt very real to life, no embarrassment was spared by any of the actors.

Well, if people are alcoholics, they shouldn't drink as much when they have kids.
Bottom line is, glorifying alcoholism by over acting it doesn't do anyone any good.

The facts are this wendi (good job on the Mechanic by the way. yer the only person who's ever gotten that one)

B. Jack Lemmon is now responsible for getting her OUT of the gutter and back on the wagon...FACT.
Would YOU let your significant other just fall by the wayside after years of marriage? Don't sell me on this, "He triiiiiiiiied to help her."
Well, not really. If that was his best effort, then he's pretty lame and deserves to be back on the bottle, which is character probably WILL most likely be if this were real life.
