Dated date scene?

Hooo boy, was that 1st date scene dated. In fact, if I wanted to turn off a 2009 woman (for whatever odd reason I would have to repel someone who looked like Kirsten), I couldn't do better than what Joe does. Confuse her with a sheik's 'good time girl?' Belittle her job? Bring peanut brittle to her as a present? Ask for a 'nightcap' on the first date? Swill alcohol from a pint bottle in front of her, a teetoler - then chuck the bottle into the bay?

Of course, only in '60s movies would an attractive woman even look twice at the happily-less-than-alpha males that Lemmon tended to play. See also "April Fools."

She didn't drink and Joe saw an opportunity to take her to heaven?

Dated? The movie was made in 1962. Did you expect them to anticipate your point of view forty-seven years in the future and make their film with that in mind?

But the scene doesn't reflect what dating was like in 1962, anyway. Almost any woman at that time would have rejected a guy who acted like that.

To any normal young woman, such an approach would have seemed just as appalling in 1962 as it does today. Such behavior is not "dated". It's not symbolic of that time. It's typical of dumbass, boorish guys of all times.

I didn’t find it credible that she would be attracted to him. She seemingly found him repellent or a sad joke but then inexplicably wants to take him up on his offer of dinner.
