J Lo never heard of this

I was watching American Idol (don't judge me) and there was a banjo playing contestant. Harry Connick Jr. asked her to play the Beverley Hillbillies song so the judges could sing along. Jennifer Lopez stated she had NEVER heard the song before. So Harry and Keith Urban sang it while J Lo sat by with a puzzled expression. I do not believe her. Keith Urban knew it and he did not even grow up in the USA.

It wouldn't surprise me, ppl now days don't know anything if its older than 5 years old lol

I've talked to younger ppl who don't even know who Carol Burnett and Dick Van Dyke are :/

J. Lo Probably didn't watch many re-runs as she was growing up. Younger people tend to want newer shows and they don't want to see anything that wasn't filmed in HD. My teenaged girls hated re-runs until they started watching them with me. Now they love George Burns and Gracie, The Brady Bunch, and Fat Albert.
Still, we got a rise at the dentist's office last week when a re-make of "Your Song" came over the speaker and my fifteen year old daughter said what a great song it was. Then I told her it was a re-make from more than 40 years ago by a famous musician named Elton John. Then she asked "who is Elton John?" You should have seen the looks on the faces of the other waiting patients as I explained.

Not so sure about that. My school-age nieces like "I Love Lucy".

Even though it is in black and white.

So Even when I mentioned the later 2 color Lucy shows being in color, still wanted to watch I Love Lucy even knowing it was in black and white.

Because they like "I Love Lucy".

She's only 1 year younger than I am. No excuse.

reply

She never heard of the show because she is a moron. That's all you need to know.

To me, a moron is a person who thinks it's a sign of intelligence to know the theme song of an outdated TV sitcom. But that's on par for what passes for "intelligence" these days--knowing insignificant, unimportant pop cultural references.

A moron knows nothing about what's going on around them or within their culture, and doesn't care. In other words, J Lo.

Get the facts first - you can distort them later!

reply

No atomicgirl, J Lo is a moron much like you it seems

reply

I don't believe her for a minute. She may not have remembered all the words, but to say she never heard it. No way. She's older than my parents, and it was all over tv when they were kids. More than likely she wants to pretend to be too sophisticated to know it.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

reply

Totally agree ! She's in her 40s and desperate to not admit it ! LOL !

reply

She’s in her 50s, genius.

reply

She wasn't 50 when he wrote it, Einstein.

reply

Thanks for writing a nasty response to a post I made two years ago. She’s in her 50s, moron. The Beverly Hillbillies is still watched today. Natalieanne71 is also a moron.

reply

Poor baby.

reply

Dang she's older then your parents? How old are your parents? And how old are you? Are you a teenager?

IMBD says that J-Lo is going to be 46 this year so........I gotta believe that she has at least heard the song before even if she is not too clear about the show itself. It's possible that she never watched the show in either its prime time run or even in syndication --but she had to have heard the theme song at some point. If she was ten years younger I would say it would be more possible that she perhaps wouldn't have known the song at all.

<<<I gotta believe that she has at least heard the song before even if she is not too clear about the show itself.

I think you're right. And even if she never heard the tv theme song (very doubtful), she must have at least heard the version that was sung by Flatt & Scruggs, being into music and that charted on Bilboard top 40 at the time, iirc.

Keith Urban grew up in my country (New Zealand) but he is a few years older than me, he would of grown up with it or watched reruns. We got all the old American shows I love Lucy, Bonanza, I Dream of Jeannie, The Adams Family, The Munsters, Bewitched, Lost in Space etc etc, he probably knows them all as well as you Americans.

Anyone who grew up in the 1970s, 80s and/or 90s would know about old TV shows like the Beverly Hillbillies, b/c old TV shows were in constant daytime syndicated reruns right up till like 1999 or 2000. Post 2000 these shows moved over to cable TV reruns, but before that they were always on at some point.

Some people either didn't watch TV or as children, were not allowed to watch TV when they were children. I grew up in East Tennessee, in the 60s & 70s, and I knew kids whose parents belong to a Christian fundamentalist sect that would not allow a TV in their home. They did not allow their children to watch TV, go to the movies, or go to the local high school football and basketball games. They were supposed to read the bible and go to church all the time. These people would protest textbooks in schools (read Battleground: One Mother's Crusade, the Religious Right, and the Struggle for Control of Our Classrooms, by Stephen Bates). In 1983, one of these crazed fundamentalist, and her cohorts, invaded Church Hill Elementary Grade School in protest of the material in the school. They were arrested and went to the local hoosegow, complaining, as they went, that it was the school teachers that should be locked up. And even stranger things that this happened.

And now, some of them are once again on free over the air tv.

However, on the subchannels.

"MeTv", "Antenna TV", "Cozi TV", "Get Tv" (although the latter is mostly old movies), etcetera.

We used to get British shows on New Zealand TV too in those days, Dads Army, Allo Allo, etc. It is mostly American TV these days, unfortunately.

Did you get Columbo, one of my all-time favorites? If so, how is received in your country?
