Smoking on a submarine was normal?

In the 50s and 60s I guess? Not sure if that is true

As I recall, smoking on submarines wasn't banned until 2009 or 2010. It was definitely allowed into the eighties.

Just about every sub movie of the past shows characters smoking, so I guess it was. People smoked just about everywhere back then. I’ve seen a forties movie (don’t remember what it was) where a character is smoking while being examined on a hospital table.

lol thats actually funny, imagine smoking at the doctors office, but then again i think they had advertisements with doctors recommending certain cigarettes
