Loved the Sgt Tibbs role, as it's the only Disney movie cats are good in

This is about the only animated Disney movie where cats aren't sterotyped cruel villains (Disney makes a notable exception for the "Big Cats" species in The Lion King and The Jungle Book, but the common house cat is generally portrayed as evil - e.g. Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp etc.).

As a pet lover in general who likes both cats and dogs, I really appreciate the Sgt. Tibbs role, who goes against the Disney stereotype against cats and is kind and helpful to other species (he's actually the one that rescues the 99 puppies - making him the hero of the movie...)

What about The Aristocats? Duchess and her kittens are very friendly to Roquefort the mouse.

O I haven't seen that movie yet so wasn't thinking of that - good point though, it's on my to-watch list!

Yeah, I don't care for cats in reality or most cartoon cats, but I liked Sgt. Tibbs in this movie. Also, it seems that cats are most often voiced as female, so it was nice that Tibbs was a male cat for a change.

The cat in Bolt is good but that came many years later

And in live action..THAT DARN CAT (a la Bobby Darin, that is!) and THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA.

Yeah, it seems to me like cartoonists back in those days never were cat people.
That is why I like "The Aristocats", even though I know that it's technically inferior to many other Disney movies.
And I even named my cat Berlioz (but he's normally called "Berra" for short.)

We have to also remember Figaro from "Pinocchio", who was even allowed to appear in several different shorts.
I think I read somewhere that he was the only cat character, who was ever liked by Walt Disney himself.
He's got a mean streak towards Pluto in at least one short and of course a realistic instinct to kill fish and birds.
But he's still treated more sympathetically than Lucifer or Si and Am are.

And there is also Milton, who played the role as Pluto's antagonist in some shorts.
He is maybe not completely nice, but he still gets a relatively sympathetic portrayal.
