Gable and Monroe

I found it creepy that Gable and Monroe were love interests in this film...he is 25 years older than her. But I guess that older men romancing younger women isn't anything uncommon in Hollywood.

People tend to read more into a situation than need to be...ITS A MOVIE PEOPLE...Gable was 60, and lost the love of his life and had been wandering for 15 years...Monroe was a druggie...these artists were not at their peak.

Thats a little harsh Sonny, but I definitely do not think it was Gable's best performance although it was one of my favorites of his. As far as MM, I thought her performance was great but the whole film had an aura of a setting sun not a rising one. And I am not talking about the cinematography, just the presence of MM and Gable. Physically MM was not where she was when the pinups first came out and although Sonny was a little harsh, I think he was basically right that the drugs had taken a toll on MM. That makes me appreciate her performance though because it was good despite the fact that whatever pain and drugs were swirling in her head, she delivered a respectable performance. I say R.I.P to both of them and thanks for the great film!

Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe were brilliant in this great film.

I've seen all of Gable's movies except 2 early ones and I feel this is his greatest performance. As the difference in ages, who the hell cares? Clark Gable was still extremely sexy and attractive here, despite being a good 20 years past his prime. Very few women would have turned him down, and in fact, Monroe adored him and practically worshipped him.

I notice people on these boards endlessly bitching about old actors paired with young actresses. You see it with Bing Crosby-Grace Kelly, Bogie-Audrey Hepburn, Gary Cooper-Audrey Hepburn, etc. Never saw what the big deal is.
