Excellent film, but most noticeably one where Burt Lancaster actually played a good part, did it well, and (as someone else said) deserved an award nomination for it.
What's more, it wasn't even a sympathetic role.

Judgment at Nuremberg is definitely one of his good roles, but did you see Il gattopardo (The leopard)? Personally, I think his role in this film was Burt Lancaster's finest. He was also good in Elmer Gantry.

I´ve seen many Lancaster´s movies and he´s great in all of them! For me he´s one of the most versatile actors that ever lived. In Elmer Gantry he´s stupenduous and his performance in Il Gattopardo is one of the bests I´ve seen.

shareI was going to make the same suggestion! "The Leopard" really is a ten-out-of-ten as I rate films, and he is one of the reasons why I rate that film so highly. That film is the reason why I began to pay attention to him as an actor, and why I started watching foreign films. I was much younger then, and I thought subtitles = boring. My-oh-my!

Right, Elmer Gantry, and what about The Bird Man of Alcatraz and The Rainmaker? I liked his acting in most of the movies he starred in.

shareBurt was never a technical actor, but he was averagely good in many great movies.
His performences are good, though, in this film, and a few others, like Bird Man from Alcatraz.
He was a leading man, leading men of the period dont need to be great actors, same thing happened to John Wayne.
But Lancaster's career is a great one, even though most of his performamces are averagely good, and onlya few are excelent, like this one. But again, this applies to every actor out there.

Not many actors have a filmography as great or better than Burt Lancaster. He was certainly on a roll at this point in his career.
