Creepiest moment

A lot of people cite the "Miss Jessel on the lake" scene as being the scariest, but I personally think the scariest moment in the film is when Miss GIddens is playing hide and seek with the children, and we get a glimpse of Miss Jessel passing through the corridor— it happens so quickly and the image is so unsettling... I get chills just thinking about it. The image of Quint up in the watchtower is also horrifying.

For me, the creepiest moments were probably Quint gliding up to the window and the hallway glimpse of Miss Jessel.

That distant mournful almost sung call in the garden "Flora,Flora!" brrrr!

Oh yeah, that definitely gave me the chills!

Creepiest for me was the scene in the Greenhouse, when Mikes threw the tortoise through one of the greenhouse glass panels.

Miss Jessel at the lake is downright unnerving. But the creepiest scene without doubt is Quint suddenly gliding up to the window where Miss Giddons is hiding. The first time I saw that scene I audibly gasped. It shocked me then and still creeps me out now.

Notice the curtain move just a little - that made the moment immensely more real.

Miss Jessel's two appearances by the lake are truly bone chilling.

The other scene that always gets me is when Miss Giddens is tucking Miles into bed, and everything appears to be all sweet and settled. And THEN Miles gives Miss Giddens a kiss on the lips and the look on his face right after... It is the look of a smug, self-satisfied, sexually arrogant adult male whose intentions can only be guessed at.

And the way Miss Giddens pulls back, like she knows something is not quite right. Brrrr....

Like women never give that look?

Maybe they do, I don't know. But I was talking about Miles and Quint, and since both Miles and Quint are male and not female, I used the word "male" to describe their presence.

reply

LOL! "Maybe"? You've really never met a smug, self-satisfied or "sexually arrogant" (as you put it) woman? You must have spent your life alone in a cave.

I may have met some, but I can't say I noticed any. Female sexual energy just kind of bounces right off me.

I've spent my adult life sucking cock, licking hairy, smelly armpits and eating hairy, sweaty, pheromone expelling a$$holes.

And that's how I'd put it.

The whole movie was pretty consistently creepy, but there were a few standout moments. Jessel on the lake is one of them. The way she just stood there, unmoving, looking right at you for so long.

I found the whole movie really unnerving. For maximum effectiveness I watched it alone, in the middle of the night, in the dark.

Miss Jessel scared me more than Quint.

I was creeped out by my realization that Giddens was pretty much insane and torturing the little girl into admitting to seeing something that IMO she wasn't seeing because although she was trying to protect the children, I was thinking the children need protection from this woman. So the ending, and what happens to the little boy becomes that much more creepy if you go with the Giddens is insane interpretation.

I absolutely agree. When I think of scary moments from this movie, this one is tops. We just see that split second of her passing by but it's very lifelike. Definitely scared me.
