Creepiest moment

A lot of people cite the "Miss Jessel on the lake" scene as being the scariest, but I personally think the scariest moment in the film is when Miss GIddens is playing hide and seek with the children, and we get a glimpse of Miss Jessel passing through the corridor— it happens so quickly and the image is so unsettling... I get chills just thinking about it. The image of Quint up in the watchtower is also horrifying.

I was freaked out from the start of the movie by that eerie singing over the dark screen, lol. There was something with those kids. What was with Flora singing that decidedly mature tune throughout the whole movie, and that poem Miles recited that would have made Stephen King proud. It had sort of a Pet Semetary feel to the words 

I've always felt Quint's face in the window was the creepiest. That moment when his eyes catch the light.

Miles reciting the poem is pretty creepy but Miss Jessel on the lake is, hands down, the creepiest. Saw it as a child and it scared / scarred me for life.

Same here. This and The Haunting really did freak me out to the point where I can only now watch them. That image of Miss Jessel just standing there silently has stayed with me since I was a kid.

In case you haven't already seen it, try the original Woman in Black (1989).

I find the lake scene and the appearance of Miss Jessel in the schoolroom pretty creepy. I think the most creepy moments though are the ones between Miles and Miss Giddens, Miles is so frightening and he acts like someone much older than he is supposed to be.

The lake scene is nightmare material.

Any scenes with Miss Jessel were terrifying, but the ones that really got me were the ones you mentioned -- That shot of her heading to the other side of the room and the lake scene. There's something about the way the shadows form around her eyes that's so frightening.

I also thought the shot of Miles opening the door while Miss Giddens plays the music box pretty scary.

I believe there is another world waiting for us, Sixsmith.

For me it was indeed the lake. But most of all when Flora was forced to look at it. That really sent chills to my spine

I would have to go with the lady in the lake. A ghastly figure that just stands there, for a long time, for all to see, is somehow creepier than a figure that suddenly pops out for a brief moment.
