Could this show be Revived.

I guess the chances of it is a BIG FAT ZERO ever since the failure of Brian Clemens The New Avengers.
Plus, all the actors are too old and most of the writers are dead. In essence, its now a memory.
However, Doctor who had lesser challenges and was revived beautifully (Not really in my opinion, only Matt Smith has really given us the feeling of Classic Doctor who, despite the soap opera element of it being a mainstay)

However, could it be revived by ITV or BBC? Could they bring back Steed and his partners? Could they revive it by giving it some new life in the 21st century?

The problem is, should we do a Reboot or should we do a continuation.
If i were to write the treatment it would go like this

John Steed, while not a code name, becomes one. We see a younger steed who had similarities but HARSH differences. Almost like the bond code name fan theory. This boy could be related to steed in some way. Who says he needs to 20-30? Why not make him 40? THis new steed could be a son, or a protege. However, that would mean we would have to give a reason why Steed would give up his name. Perhaps a Macnee Cameo would do the trick.

The Origin would be how the amateur partner (Dr. David Keel, Purdey update) meets Steed and eventually is brought into the world of British Espionage. The inciting incident is that the enemies now have his adress and he will have to live in fear. However, the agency can give him indirect training and support
the problems in the story could range from the enemy killing something meaningful like friend, lover (like in Hot Snow) or wiping out his life.

The series will end when said enemy has resources destroyed and good men/sub-prime (recurring but loved characters) as well as one Main character die, or are written out. The conclusion is that Amateur partner has AVENGED his setbacks, and can now breathe free.

Series 2 can then start off with a new threat and new partner.

Thats just me, please critique and contribute whether the Avengers can be revived

What I think would work, is to use a style similar to Pushing Daisies... PD was a show where you weren't really sure what era they were in because of the mish-mash of every era, and the feel of the show was just nostalgic, and because of this, they were able to make it innocent, and clean, and just fun, it didn't need all the sex, or violence, the style made up for it, and I think that type of style would work beautifully with the avengers.

An independent tribute one shot is in the works; 2015 marks 50 years since Steed and Mrs Peel first appeared on screen together.

SHM. So far, can't be revived. I didn't think the 1998 movie was as bad as it's made out to be, but still.

You could not revive it the way it was because the show's whole premise would be outdated and lets face it ,a lot of it was nonsense to poke fun at the spy genre and amuse viewers. All of the plots were typical 60's spy spoofing schlock and the two main characters dialog was laced with silly banter even when they were in danger. Also, The fights involving Peel and Steed besides being so badly choreographed, were so insanely funny that I almost thought I was watching Batman of the 1960's complete with the campy music ,they were just missing the POWS. That's why the show worked back then because of the fun and campiness. You would not be able to do that today because that genre died out in the 60's and wouldn't translate to a modern audience. The New Avengers was terrible as well since it took Steed out of his element and without Emma Peel just plain boring.

We also have the terrible failure of the 1998 movie . Talk about an abomination and an insult to the TV show. You cannot make a movie when you dont know what the hell youre doing. The whole thing was just a mess, an incoherent plot , abysmal acting by Fiennes, Thurman and Sean Connery. Ugh. They could have taken some of the 60's elements and updated them -a more serious plot and more serious action while keeping the witty banter and some of the camp just to remind us older viewers of the tv show . Instead we got crap and more crap. My take is , leave it alone. It is a piece of 1960's campy fun.
And as a final note Patrick Macnee is 93 and I dont think hed come out of retirement to make a cameo on a lousy reboot of his classic 1960's show.

So, a thought crossed your mind? Must have been a long and lonely journey
