Um, explanation...? (Spoiler)

Justine's motivation is apparently that, if she must be disfigured, others must suffer with her. But no explanation is given. How was she scarred? I thought that she resembled the first victim. But if that was her, why did Desmond disfigure her? Was it some kind of an accident? There are so many unanswered questions and instead we're given this 1950s PSA about the dangers of hypnotism.

I just watched it and wondered the same thing.

Ditto. It's not as if Desmond had dumped her, although maybe he was hypnotizing these women and romancing them because he couldn't stand to make love to Justine anymore with her disfigured face and she was o.k. with that as long as she got to disfigure them afterwards. If that's the case, maybe it's not clearly spelled out for the audience because it was a little too perverse to get by the censors in 1960. And where did this hypnotic eye that can spellbind a whole room come from?

At least the PSA at the end seemed to be done with a wink and a smile (i.e., not to be taken seriously).

Je suis Charlie Hebdo.

Jealousy. Justine was once pretty, then became disfigured. She know wants to see all pretty women disfigured as well. That's about it. Not sure why you need more than that.

And she was not the first victim.

reply

Correct. Dottie was the 12th victim as the newspaper headline suggested.

reply

Yea, she did it for jealousy but an explanation as to how she was disfigured would’ve been nice.
