According to TCM he was asked but declined because he was concerned about type-casting but later deceided to do more Dracula movies anyway.
Who knows. I'm just glad we got him when we did. My collection of Dracula dvds is almost complete!

Understandable if Lee wanted a bit of a break from horror. He'd already done The Curse of Frankenstein in 1956, Dracula in 1958, The Mummy and The Hound of the Baskervilles both in 1959, all for Hammer.
shareIt would've been awesome if he did appear in the movie, but it was good enough with him not being in it either way.
