why is marilyn still such an icon

why is marilyn still such an icon, was it the young age she died? her involvement with the president of the united states, the suspicious way she died, it was'nt her talent, there have been many actresses? with more talent, her looks she was very glamorous and the camera loved her, but she was no ava gardner, rita hayworth, sophia loren etc etc, but people won't be wearing tee shirts with there name on, not in mass anyway like marilyn, she made one or two good films, the best has to be some like it hot, i think she was a good comedic actress although it took 147 takes to say one word, it certainly was'nt her talent she was no cyd charisse, mitzi gaynor in the dancing field, she was no meryl streep in the acting dept, and she was no doris day or streisand in the singing dept, in fact she was dubbed, i guess that a lot of people just loved her?

So are Elvis and Michael Jackson.

I can hardly wait until Donald Trump is "just a (bad) memory from the past".

It's hard to describe, what made Marilyn so special. But there is a easy way to find out. Watch amovie with Marilyn, best "Some like it hot" and with this fresh picture in your head watch "One week with Marilyn" with Michelle Williams.

Yes, Michelle Williams is posing like her, maybe you can say she is doing this posing very well. But with the fresh picture of Marilyn you will see, that Michelle Williams is not Marilyn Monroe. And Michelle is so far away from being Marilyn as it is possible. It makes it hard to watch the entire movie, because you see in every single scene: THIS IS NOT MARILYN !!

But in that difference I learned much about Marilyn and why she was, who she was. She had a way to act with the camera and to behave in front of the camera, I know today, I have never seen in that way before. I begin to see it, because Michelle cannot redo this, not even in small parts. I understand the myth about her know a lot more better.

She was one of a kind. I actually just saw Some Like it Hot for the first time yesterday and I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

At a Christmas party tonight, someone mentioned that they are remaking the film. Good luck finding someone to play Sugar Kane that will be anywhere near as memorable as MM did.

Agree....no one of today's stars can ever replace Marilyn or even begin to own the screen the way she did.

A remake???? There is no male actor of today who could begin to duplicate the genius of Jack Lemon or Tony Curtis. Sorry......not going to happen with today's crop of "stars".

People are right when they say the camera loved her. Whether Vivian Leigh or any number of women may be thought of as better looking, when I think of individual MM shots in movies, she's delightful to watch. You could take just about any still photo of MM and make a poster out of it. I saw a (supposedly) photo of her with a lumberjack shirt on pumping iron on a weight bench, and I couldn't believe I'd never seen it before. (Someone said it was photo shopped but it sure looked real.)
She looks great in everything.
